GPA: Probably 4.0 (almost certain)
SAT 2: Biology M (710)
I will also take three more SAT 2s; Math IC, Chemistry, and US History next year, and probably two more during senior year.
AP: I took AP Euro this year, and I'm waiting for the score. Next year, I'm taking A.P. US History, and during senior year, probably about 6 A.P. courses.

I HAVENT TAKEN THE SATS YET, SO PLEASE TELL ME WHAT A GOOD SAT SCORE WOULD BE TO GET INTO COLUMBIA

Do yourself a favor and don't list ping pong club as your #2 EC. A competitive SAT score for Columbia is over 2200.

2200 is required? wow thats gunna be hard, but i'll try. do u have any other advice for me concerning extra curricular, or anything else? by the the way thx for replying. i appreciate it

It's not "required", but if you're white or Asian and not a recruited athlete or someone with a highly unusual EC, that will make you really competitive.

well i'm asian, and what do u mean "unusual"? lol well anyway, do u think i need to improve on anything else? like should i go more on extra curricular or something?

I would take many more APs junior year. Not more ECs, just get more deeply into something. Try for national level honors is music or chess.

load up on junior year, not senior year . . . but still take a tough schedule senior year

work on your swimming, maybe email a coach at Columbia and see what it takes to get recruited . . . if that doesn't work out, do as suze said, try to get one or two achievements on the national (best) or regional level . . .
the key for ECs is depth, not breadth

just for thought:
foster an academic interest as well--something unique, maybe offbeat that you enjoy (e.g. Eastern European languages), maybe email a Columbia professor about it, then you would have something to write about in your "Why Columbia?" essay . . .

wow national level, that's gunna be hard! even regional! is regional like east U.S., West U.S., that kind of thing? well can state level help too? or tri state? cause i have some of that for music too, hmm well anyway. thx for advice

546mp, thx for the advice. for swimming, i'm really not sure i'm good enough to get recruited lol. and i think the essay is a good idea. but wat do u mean call the professor? what should i say?
