I have very good GPAs. Unweighted: 3.89, Weighted: 5.03. Taken all available core AP classes - mostly As.
very good ECs too.
SATs are not too high: 1420 on new SAT.
what are my chances of johns Hopkins or duke or cornell? or should I totally forget about it?
Both your GPA and test score are near or slightly below the admission average of these schools. Your chance should be around the admission rate of the corresponding schools.
Just seems a lot of new posters lately with the same bullets: want an uber selective college, less than 4.0, somewhat less competitive scores for the schools named, a lot of AP, and they believe they have great or very good ECs, but don’t state what.
If you want a top or tippy top, first thing is, admit reviews are holistic. Get to know what your targets value and want. No one can get much of a picture from stats. And it matters what classes got less than A.
To be honest, I think you don’t have a good GAP because it is 3. 8; most of the people applying to Yale have 4.0 unweighted. Your SAT score is also below average. Also, although the colleges care about the rigorousness of the courses, you need to remember that they will know if you just took the courses for AP credit. you need to be genuinely interested in the courses you take not just for credit.
hope this helps!
