What are my chances for NYC prep schools

I scored, on average, top 8% on my SSAT (92nd percentile). I have all A’s except for Health and Math class. I got a C in Math Honors during one quarter of the year but it quickly went back up to a B. I speak 4 languages fluently and I am vice-captain of the school soccer team. I have a pretty great resume of extra-curriculars- I am/have been involved in over 10 different activities in the past 4 years. I rehearsed thoroughly for the interviews and executed them almost flawlessly.

So my question is: Do you think I can be accepted into schools like Dalton, Horace Mann, Trinity, etc for 9th grade with these credentials and scores?

The competition is ridiculous; some schools have 20 spots for 800 applicants. I also have absolutely no association with people from inside these schools (relatives, recc. letters, etc) which I have learned are very important in the final decision.

Ok chances becuase of your SSAT, you typically need around at 85% for these schools. However you don’t have the inside connections. The competetion is not as selective as you think, even Philips Andover and Exeter have 10% acceptance rates and those are the best of the best. I do not think there are that many applicants and I’m pretty sure there are 50 spots, especially for Dalton which is a big school. Best of luck!

There are absolutely not 50 Dalton spots! This is absurd how everyone is taking advice from people who have no information. All of these schools OP is asking about have a class already formed, they are only growing a little bit in 9th grade, so they open up then but not that much. I would be shocked if Dalton had more than 20 spots. It is at least as hard to get into Dalton and Horace Mann and Trinity as it is to get in to Exeter and Andover and there are far more spots at boarding schools as they are building classes from scratch.

I definitely agree with what you said. What schools do you think I could be accepted into? I also applied to friends seminary, Columbia grammar, UNIS, and a couple of others.

Friends and Columbia Grammar are SIGNIFICANTLY less selective, and UNIS even more so. I would want to know more about where you are applying from etc to start making guesses. If you want to PM me you can, I would not be putting that info out there on this board. I think you are overstating the importance of having connections although it certainly doesn’t hurt. Many of these schools are seeking to diversify with the high school years, are you an underrepresented minority? Do you need financial aid? Also many of the FA spots in these classes go to Prep For Prep kids etc who come in through a fully vetted program. Perhaps @asiankid1234 should save his opinion for topics on which hew has some base of knowledge, it is not helpful to anyone for people to just throw stuff out into the internet
