@JBStillFlying I really don’t have any idea. The Admissions reader is quite active on a subreddit and I personally asked about the acceptance rates. Could have messed one of them up with previous years’ rates or maybe it is actually what the reader said :-?
@DariusTheGreat So I guess the best thing is to hope for the best, but prepare for the worst. Thank you so much for letting me know all of this information, and I wish your sister luck and I hope she gets in. Is UChicago her first choice?
@mylhu1011 I did somewhat mention figure skating in my application, but I talked more about speech team since that’s what I’m more passionate about. I was trying to figure out what I was going to talk about, and I decided that it would be better to talk about what I’m really passionate about so they have a good idea on who I am as a person.
My unweighted GPA is a 3.8, and I am in the top 10% in my school. I know that doesn’t really matter since almost everyone else is also in their top 10%, but it’s still something I am proud of. Do you think being in the Mu Alpha Omega program will help since they only allow the top 10 girls and top 10 boys in the school to be in it? Thank you so much for you’re input!
@littlebluish Sorry if it someone has asked this already, but does applying ED really make that much of a difference where the rate goes up to 22%?
@Riedellskater ED rate of most Ivy leagues and top tiers hover around 20%. So, I don’t think the rate is anything unusual. Besides, I read that most EA candidate last year was deferred and many of them who decided to change it to ED II got in.
@Riedellskater Being in Mu Alpha Omega will help, but I’m not sure to what degree. Like you pointed out yourself, basically everyone who gets in is in the top 10% of their class. The weight admissions places on this would, as I understand it, depend on the difficulty of your high school. If you go to a very competitive high school, being in MAO is very impressive. If you don’t go to one, then it sort of loses its luster.
