"What are my chances??" Games - FOR TRANSFERS!

I know all of the H.S. students have their chances game, so i've started one just for us transfers....same rules apply, more info though

1.) List of schools (only pick up to 5 b/c these posts need to be short)
2.) Description of High School
3.) SAT / ACT (you may include SATIIs)
4.) H.S. GPA (indicated if it's weighted or not)
5.) class rank (if your school doesn't rank, give your decile)
6.) EC's and awards, Don't list them. Just rate them w/the following scale (please be honest):
Outstanding
Very Good
Decent
Poor
Non-existent
7.) College GPA

8.) Extra: List anything that you think benefit you in the admissions process (legacy, recruited athlete, minority status, hard couse load, etc.)

For less confusion, here's the basic guidelines of rating chances (from 100% chance of being admitted to 0% chance):
Safety - self explanitory
Slight Match - could be 100%, but one or two things are too low
Match - stats are 25-75% percentile, pretty good chance, but outside factors (essays, recommendations) could sway either way
Low Reach - few things missing to make it a match, bottem percentiles
High Reach - unlikely chance
N/P - not possible

I guess I can start:
1)U.Chicago, Cornell-CALS, Rice, Dartmouth, Georgetown
2)Competitive Public High School (Top 100)
3)SAT I: 2400; SAT II: 710, 700; 13 AP 5s
4)4.21/5 W; 2.86UW
5)129/700
6)Outstanding (i.e. numerous national/intl. awards in computers and music)
7)1st semester: 3.675-3.75; Midterm: Should be 4.0
8)Will be interning at Chevron this winter; running a 1:56 800m and looking to use that as an transfer hook (but I don't know the procedure about contacting coaches having not run HS track)-timed by uni track team.

That is a nice selection of schools. If you want my personal instincts, dearsiryes, here they are:
Rice: Reject/Waitlist
Chicago: Accept (write good essays!)
Georgetown: Accept (write good essays!)
Dartmouth: Reject
Cornell: Anything is possible, though likely reject.

Good luck:)

Lol^^

Dearsiryes, I believe you have a real solid shot at transferring to those schools, amazing SATs and GPA. Don't let people get to you, good luck.

Yeah, he/she could get into MIT if he/she wanted to (wink, wink, nudge, nudge).

[rolleyes]

Less sarcastically, though, Projectx: if you had actually read his/her stats, you would have noticed her HS GPA. Given that she has not even completed a year of college, and that she is in Texas (a factor Rice University takes into account), her chances as a sophomore transfer are slim. If she maintains good grades for two years, her chances at these schools increase dramatically.

LOL!!!!! WHAT do i know, LOL, I was only rejected from Rice twice LOL (once as a freshman, the other as a sophomore), AND finally accepted as a junior. LOL. I only have nearly the exact same stats as she (though my college GPA was higher at the time). LOL.

But seriously: accepted at Rice, Georgetown, and UChicago. I never applied to Dartmouth and Cornell, but I had good reasons not even to approach those schools.

Hey, punk, don't mess with my stats =)

Misread it, nspeds is right though, if you spend more time at your current college and keep maintaining an upward trend then you clearly have a shot.

Though, it never hurts to try if you are an exceptional writer. Look at some previous topics, an applicant was accepted at Harvard with like a 2.0 GPA.

Rice, Harvard, Yale

Private HS in NE. Only went 2 years.

SAT I - 2340

1st year 3.9 uw, 2nd year 3.85

School does not rank but was in top 5%

Very good.

So far 4.0 up to finals on demanding 14 credit semester.
Note... I am 16 (f), and at a university not a CC. No I did not graduate from HS.

He did two years of college before that.

Honestly I couldn't tell ya because of the briefness and age, I'll let someone else give it a shot.

Mine should be easier, I'm not one of the CC elite.

1.) University of Oklahoma, Iowa St, Millersville
2.) Typical HS
3.) never took SATs or ACTs
4.) H.S. GPA 1.8w
5.) class rank...top 50%
6.) a few ECs, nothing special.
7.) College GPA: 3.57

8.) Extra: Vocational w/16 credits applied to a degree with 4.0 GPA, SkillsUSA networking 1st in state, 16th national. NTHS, Dean's list in college, Phi Theta Kappa.

I should add that I graduated HS in 1997.

Missed that, thought he was a freshman transfer. Dearsiryes, you should give it a shot, wouldn't hurt.

Jcampbell, have you considered taking the SATs?

No one has any thoughts on my stats?

I have, but considering my age, the time I've had out of school, 60 credits (probably 12 or so transferrable), and 2 years in a CC I don't feel it's really necessary to take them or my ACTs

1.) UChicago (econ), NYU (stern), Georgetown (McDonough), Northwestern, BU
2.) very competitive public high school
3.) SAT I: 2150, SAT II's: bio: 750, math iic: 710, literature: 700
4.) HS GPA: around 3.3 WGPA
5.) class rank: no idea but most likely very very low (in the lower half)
6.) EC's: decent
7.) College GPA: 4.0

8.) Extra: good writer, sharp turn around in college in comparison to the effort I put into high school.

edit: btw, I'm at a CCC, and applying as a sophomore transfer

Nuveen-
Chicago: low reach
NYU Stern: match / high match (with prereqs complete)
Georgetown: high match
Northwestern: low reach
BU: low match

I'm pretty confident about BU...if you get the prereqs done, you've got a good shot at NYU as well. I don't think you'll get into Northwestern, decent shot at Georgetown but will probably need another year of grades, and probably not in at Chicago without really good essays.

** Now for my junkie stats **

1.) Wesleyan, Brown, NYU (Stern), UT (McCombs), WUSTL, Chicago, Georgetown (McDonough), Cornell CALS
2.) Nothing special
3.) ACT: 34 SAT 1: 2220 SAT IIs: MathI: 750 MathII: 740 USHist: 740
4.) HS GPA: 4.08 Weighted (assload of AP/Honors courses, but I didn't try)
5.) Top 15% (bleh)
6.) Decent / Very Good
7.) College GPA: 4.0 - Montgomery CC (I think we should put current school or approximate ranking since that's really important...my 4.0 is good, but not amazing considering where it's from)

**I'm sorry I cheated and did 8 schools instead of 5...

8.) Extra: Well, I've improved quite a bit from high school. Applyin as junior transfer with all prereqs completed for those that have requirements...and I know my recs will all be VERY good since I go to a CC and my professors all love me because I have ambition and don't plan on transferring to Sam Houston or A&M like everyone else...um...my main recommendor/mentor is very good at this college admissions game. Her daughter went to Andover and then Columbia, so she's obviously been VERY helpful in making my applications look good. :D

I expect rejections from quite a few of those, but figure it's best to try...Brown is my favorite (like so many of you) but I'm not expecting much. I'll be absolutely exuberant if I'm accepted into Wesleyan!

different_steps:
-OU - match/slight match - very good shot i'd say
-IS - match/safety
-millersville - dont know

brand_182:
-Wesleyan - match/low reach - i say low reach only because you're at a CC
-Brown - high reach - its brown, and low transfer rates
-NYU (Stern) - low reach - again, only because of CC, but vveerryy low
-UT (McCombs) - match
-WUSTL - ?
-Chicago - match/low reach - overall competative school with low transfer rates
-Georgetown (McDonough) - low reach
-Cornell CALS - high reach - again, its cornell, low transfer rate

**please remember the point of this thread! respond to the one before your post, and put comments about other/earlier posts in beginning of thread
also, please put soph or junior transfer

shoebox, brand is in at Georgetown.

tears of happiness :D That's nice to hear from you. I look forward to April.

Waiiiittt... I am not on the admissions committee. I just know a sure-admit when I see one, and that looks like it.

Oh, and my personal opinion: if you are planning to go to professional school, eschew the Wesleyan, UChicago, UT, and NYU stuff and stick to Georgetown. I would highly consider Cornell and Brown, but Georgetown gives a lot of opportunities that simply would not be available to grads of other schools.

lol oh don't worry I'm not going to hold you to it...it's just nice to hear from someone who's done it already.

Thx for the advice.
