The 70% SSAT score may be a red flag as the average score for Andover is in the 90’s. Your chances will depend on the strength of the rest of your profile. Have you been in touch with the soccer coach? Did you apply to any other schools?
A 70 will definitely hurt you, but you do have expressive EC’s. It’s hard for anybody to say. Best of luck!
Yes, thanks a lot for the helpful words of advice. Yeah, I have applied to Brooks and Pingree. I feel a little worried about The 70th percentile SSAT score as well, but hopefully my the rest of my application can help me at least be considered. Again thanks so much for the help.
One other question, when do the decision letters arrive?
The whole class gets fed ex’d March 10. If you don’t get an acceptance letter, you have to wait to get your denial. You have great accomplishments, but unfortunately you need more–recruited athlete, URM, geodiversity, feeder school or legacy. Good Luck!
Unless things have changed, I believe that acceptance letters are fedexed to arrive on M10, with non-acceptance letters being sent by regular mail. Regardless, decisions are posted on the portal on M10.
Ok thanks so much for the reply. I’m not completely used to applying to private high schools since this is my first time. What’s ironic is once you think the stress is done from filling out the application, then you have to deal with the stress of waiting. Well, I guess patience is a virtue.
Just want to say Good Luck to all those applying to PA this year because I myself am still nervous and worried and am going through probably exactly what you’re going.
Yes, I was trying to communicate that the selected class gets a fed ex letter of acceptance. Historically PA wants the class getting their acceptance letters on the same day–as a bonding experience. If you don’t get a fed ex March 10 with a letter of acceptance, you likely got a denial letter in snail mail. If you try to call Admissions that day, they don’t pick up, and instead you are welcome to call them if you don’t get your denial letter within 2 weeks–or something to that effect.
Ok thanks so much! All this talk really gets me nervous. But, I mean look at it this way. If it was easy to get into Phillips, then it wouldn’t be as big of an achievement if you got there! Out of curiosity, are you/have you ever applied to PA. Thanks again!
@MiniLife I am applying to PA this year and I think you have a good chance. I just have a few questions:
What ethnicity are you?
How was your interview?
Are you taking the SSAT again?
Did you have good Teacher Recs?
Did you do a special interest rec?
Will you need financial aid (I know they have need-blind admission)?
What state do you live in?
Good Luck!
I am an American but was born in Morocco and stayed there for until the age of 4.
My interview went pretty smooth and my interviewer got interested in me when I told her I went to Morocco because she did as well in the summer.
I am not taking the SSAT (although that probably would’ve been a wiser choice).
I feel I got amazing teacher recs from my math teacher because she always tells my mom that “I am brilliant” and compliments me. Also, I feel I got a terrific personal rec from a parent who actually told me what Phillips Academy was and his two children go there. Lastly, my English rec was probably good but not as good as both of them.
No, I didn’t do a special interest rec.
Yes, I will need Financial Aid because I don’t think my parents are going to pay $40,500 (applying for day)
I currently live in Massachusetts.
Good luck to you and hopefully you get in!
@MiniLife its okay you can always apply next year
@MiniLife Don’t worry. I was in the same boat as you, didn’t get into Exeter is the difference though. You still have three more chances to apply, one for each grade. Also, I am not sure if Andover is like Exeter, but there they had a post-grad year your could do I believe. So if it’s is really, really what you want to do to go there, you have four more chances.
Don’t worry! I completely understand what you’re going through, and I know that it has become really really difficult to picture yourself at any of the non BS schools, but I promise you that it’s not the end of the world, although it may feel like it. Just look to the bright side: high school is an exciting time for everyone, whether you’re attending BS or not! :)>- Go hang out with your friends, play with some hamsters at Petsmart idk just HAVE FUN! You’ve worked so hard: let yourself be happy.
As a high schooler who volunteers at a Petsmart ever week and plays with cats there, I can 100% agree that it is very enjoyable. Also, if you do go that route, ask the employees if the store has any agreements with local restaurants to provide discounts to employees. They usually do and will frequently pass on that discount to volunteers.
Thanks so much for the support guys, you honestly don’t even know how much it helped me cope with situations. And yeah, I guess the only thing still letting me have fun and be challenged and not too sad about it is that there’s always next year to apply and that I should just keep moving forward. Again thanks so much guys!
Are you staying on the Brooks WL? It’s such a great school - we were really impressed by it!
