here is basic stuff:
-Female, Costa Rican, from Manhattan (will not need financial aid)

I go to an extremely competitive, prestigious private school that I know carries a lot of weight at many colleges. My school does not calculate GPA, nor do we have any type of advanced classes. We also never give out A+.

My grades junior year have been: 1 A-, 3 B+, 2 B, 1 C+ (first semester) second semester: 2 A-, 2 B+, 2 B, 1 B-

My 1st semester senior classes:

Spanish VI, PreCalc, Physics, Economics (history class), South American Lit., Arabic (independent study), Social Justice (ethics course)

I've done 120 hours of community service so far

I've worked for two years with a non-profit organization, planning (successful) charity events for it with a small group of friends

Started a club at my school in connection with the organization

Write for the school newspaper

Avid member of enviornmental club

I have participated in Model UN at Yale for the past 2 years

I have an AGI internship this summer

I've done a lot of other EC's but nothing major like these. The things I have listed are the EC's I'm really passionate about

SAT scores: 1940 (first time) Verbal-680 Math- 620 Writing- 640, Sat II 2C: 720
Haven't taken ACT or the other two SAT II's yet.

Where are you in your class in terms of approximate rank? Would you say top tenth, top quarter, top half, or bellow that? Would you consider applying ED?

My school is extremely competitive and has a really good name for colleges, especially Kenyon (many people who now work at/for my school graduated from there)

No offense but the admission counselors are going to be far more interested in your demonstrated success in difficult courses and your interest in Kenyon than the name and associated prestige of your high school.

It doesn't matter if your school keeps the records or not. If people at Kenyon know your h.s. they will know where your grades put you in relation to other applicants from your school. My point is that my question is highly relevant; I will rephrase it however:

Would you say that your grades are better or worse than a majority of your friends?

To give you something to think about:
99% of Kenyon students were in the top 50% of their h.s. graduating class. The other 1% probably got in becasue there family had given so much money (like in the millions) that it would be financially foolish to reject them or they were one of the best few swimmers in the country for their year (kenyon has won something like 29 consecutive national titles so I could see them bending the rules a bit)

If you are in the top third of your very prestigious school then I'd guess your chances would be good. If you are between there and that 50% mark I'd say your chances are mediocre. If you are not in the top 1/2 then I would say your chances are very poor.

Just think if you are in a class with 20 kids how many on average get a better grade than you? Come on if your shelling out big $$$ to go to this school then hopefully they have taught you how to estimate percentages.

I'm not trying to be mean or anything at all. I just know that as one of the other people to replie said the key interest of the admissions office will be your academic success, your apparent interest in the college, and your standardized test scores.

I will also add that you SAT scores, as you may be aware, will give you a shot at getting in, but wont be turning heads in any way.

I would also venture to say that a person in admissions looking at your ecs would be satisfied enough to admit you, but again not absolutely shocked by them. You will want to keep in mind to be modest during the college search, remember applicants who have had to work 60 hours a week in the summer and 20 hours a week while in school just to help pay their families daily expenses are going to be looked at more favorable than someone who has been free to venture into whatever they choose.

Your school is screwing you over without having advanced classes...just a thought. Your school might be well know to Kenyon, but is that true with every college you are applying to?

Econ and history are both good majors from Kenyon, econ will be much harder work wise.

I think you are placing too much of an emphasis on class rank.
St. Ann's (right?) is a fantastic school and I think its reputation as a strong arts school will help with Kenyon.

I attended a New England Prep School with similar reputation, and though I was not in the top half of my class, and my parents didn't donate a penny, I was accepted ED to Kenyon.
