Hi, I’m a Junior in high school in Southern California and I’m extremely interested in Pepperdine. I want to be a real estate developer so I’m planning on majoring in Business. I’m extremely involved in my community and in my school but I’m a bit nervous about my unweighted GPA, and I know that’s the GPA they take. I took a lot of honors classes last year and i received mostly Bs but this year I’m focusing on just getting As in regular classes and only taking a few honors. My unweighted GPA is a 3.4 but my weighted GPA is a 4.0. I just took my SAT and I think I did pretty good. I’m going to list a couple other things I do below as well.
-I’m a member of the early college program so I am dual enrolled in High School and College. I’ll graduate High School with a few credits shy of my AA degree.
-I did MUN Freshman year but had to stop to do ECP.
-I played basketball Freshman and Sophomore year receiving Most Inspirational Award, Most Valuable Player, and Scholar Athlete both years.
-I play volleyball now for a club and for my high school.
-I am the President of Swim With Mike at my High School and my club is going to put on a swim-a-thon at my school this year to raise $10,000-$50,000 for the scholarship at USC.
-I am the Director of High School Operations at the Swim With Mike Scholarship at USC. The purpose of the Swim With Mike scholarship fund is to help individuals who have suffered a serious accident or an illness. I established the first high school club and swim-a-thon fundraiser in Swim With Mike’s 36 year history. I lead the growth of Swim With Mike at the high school level.
-I’ve been on 2 mission trips in the past 2 years. I’ve served as the head of sports operations, using sports to minister to kids. I plan to go again this summer.
-I am a student at the Leap Foundation which is a week long leadership seminar that provided me with the tools that are integral to creating success. The foundation, held at the University of California Los Angeles, is known as one of the leading youth leadership seminars in the country. Students are taught to identify and access mentors from whom they can learn, understand their success formulas, and adapt those successful formulas to their own lives. Students of the LEAP foundation, standing for Leadership Excellence Accelerating Potential, are guaranteed a 7 year career head start.
-I’ve also been a screenwriter and developer for the last four years. Motivated by doing the “impossible”, I set out to develop and write a screenplay in the summer before 8th grade. Once completed, I believed I could develop an even better screenplay. The following summer, I approached the second screenplay in a different manner, using my past experiences as a learning tool. I built a story board the guided me towards completion. The screenplay was read and broke down by professional readers at Good Universe Production Company providing an in depth script coverage report.
-I also have amazing mentors like Dr. Bill Dorfman who have played a huge role in all my success.
-Member of the California Scholarship Federation.
-Member of the National Honors Society.
All this being said, what are my chances of getting in to Pepperdine? I’m guessing I can get my unweighted GPA back up to a 3.5 or 3.6 and at least a 1850 on my SAT. Thanks for taking all the time to read this. I appreciate everyone’s thoughts!
