What are my chances of getting into Georgetown EA?

Hi all,

I applied to McDonough EA with the following stats. What are my chances?

GPA from public school 9th and 10th grade: 97
GPA from competitive private school 11th and 12th grade: 89.65
ACT: 34, 31
SAT: 1440, 1480, 1460
Math I: 670
Math II: 760
Chemistry: 710
6 AP classes throughout high school
Award winner and judge on debate team junior and senior year
Basketball for three years
Baseball for four years
Various community service
Senior Peer Leader
Work in the summer and spring
Yearbook photographer senior year

It’s going to be tough as Georgetown’s EA rate is a little lower than RD which is not typical. Your choices of three subjects is a little odd let’s say. Very few people take both math subject tests and if they do they only submit the best one. I don’t see anything unique in the ECs either.

I think it’s a reach at best. Figure out what you like the most about Georgetown (other than that it’s Georgetown) and find some other schools that fit your criteria. If it’s excellent education rooted in Catholic values look at Villanova, BC, Fordham, Dayton, Syracuse, etc. BC would be the next toughest to gain admission. I leave off Notre Dame because that’s about as selective as Georgetown. If it’s city life, certain course of study look at BU, GW (right next store, literally). Lots of other schools for matches and safety.

I’m curious as to why the earlier responses think it’s a reach?

Your ACT is at the 75th percentile for Georgetown and SAT is in top 1/3 maybe. There are an interesting range of ECs and they show a commitment. I’d like to think a summer job helps you stand out since many students use summers to do “community service” (aka teen tours).

How did your interview go? That’s important at G’town. If essays are strong I think you have a good chance.

@newyorkmom2girl It’s a reach mostly because of the EC choices and the pretty standard scores. OP is applying for the MSB, but nothing in their ECs indicate any business interest, and considering that Georgetown’s EA is more competitive than RD, it’s much harder to get in without good ECs AND good scores. Score wise, OP has the score threshold for Georgetown, but a lot of other people are much highly statted.

Interview went very well. Interviewer went to McDonough and we discussed it
