So I have applied to several boarding schools last week and I’m starting to get paranoid about the situation. I have applied to St. Paul’s, Andover, Taft, Loomis, Concord, NMH, and Peddie – however I am applying for 10th grade as a Canadian student. I submitted an SSAT score of 86 percentile. I’ll break it down:
Reading: 701
Verbal: 707
Math: 800
I would really love it if I got into St. Paul’s or Andover and I’m wondering if it’s possible. I have attended a private school in Canada and have had extremely high grades at school, and have done such a variety of extracurriculars with ballet being the most prominent. My interviews in my opinion went very well – almost as if it wasn’t an interview. I’m just wondering if my other facets of my application weigh out and balance the mediocre SSAT score. Also I wanted to say that I am asian, however born and live in Canada. I know these prep schools have this percentage of asian applicants they are allowed to accept, so I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me if my chances are okay for St. Paul’s and Andover?
I think you have a very good chance at all of the schools but as you now it can be a roll of the dice. Do you need financial aid? Your SSAT is not mediocre. It is very good-better and wont keep you out of any of those schools. But it is a bit lower than SPS and PA SAT averages so it doesnt help you but it wont be a barrier.
There is a pretty big dance porgram at Andover but Deerfield Academy also is known for its top notch dance program. If you don’t get admitted this year, you may want to consider it next year. If you had a hook of some sort, or legacy your chances would also be increased. Good Luck!
I am applying for grade 10. I think my parents asked an AO at Concord about applying for grade 10 and they said that they usually accept maybe 2 or 3 going into grade 10’s per year. Is this the same kind of stats at the other schools I’m applying to?
Did you send videos? If SPS is your first choice and ballet is your most prominent extracurricular activity, auditioning or sending skills/performance videos could have strengthened your application. I would reach out to your AO and to the SPSBC and ask if they would consider either at this point of the admission process.
@GoatMama hmmm our experience was a request to audience. I think it is requested when they see the experience etc. Doesnt mean OP cant ask but it is a high-test ballet
