What are my chances of getting into Tulane? Please help

I really like Tulane and I want to know my chances of getting in. I am currently a junior at a highly rated college prep in Chicago.

I plan to apply EA

Stats:

  1. GPA: 3.88 UW, 4.1 W
  2. ACT 33 -- 36W, 28M, 34R, 34S
  3. APs/Honors -- APUSH, AP Comparative Gov, AP CompSci Principles, AP Bio, Honors Algebra 2, Honors Spanish 3. Next year I plan to take AP Chemistry, AP Macro, AP Spanish, H Precalc (possibly calculus).

Overall: 7-8 APs, 2-3 Honors. I have only taken the APUSH exam (received a 5). Also taking the AP Environmental this spring but not taking the class.

Clubs/Activities:

  1. Cross Country 1-4
  2. Track/Field 1-4
  3. Scholastic Bowl 1-4, captain 4
  4. Science Olympiad 1-4, captain 4
  5. Spanish Honors Society
  6. National Honors Society (probably)

Although I haven’t written my CommonApp or Tulane supplement, I plan to spend a lot of time on them and write good essays. Also, I plan on visiting Tulane to show more demonstrated interest.

I know no one can give me a final answer, but I hope at least a rough estimate could be provided.

A lot of the “nouveaux riches” among universities – those that only recently shot up the rankings – seem to care more about demonstrated interest than anything else. Tulane and Northeastern are good examples of this. Your GPA is great, and your test score, while not stellar, is still good. Beyond that, you need to show that you really love Tulane. Go for a visit, do pre-college there if they offer that. Your best chance would be through ED, but I can understand if you don’t want to be bound to Tulane.

If you’re currently a junior, you still have room for more extracurriculars. I would advise e-mailing Tulane professors looking for research positions, as a rec letter in that field would go a long way.
