I have applied regular decision as an Electrical/Computer Engineer at the school of engineering and applied science at Penn. Decision Notifications are available April 1st at 5:00 p.m., but I am curious whether I have a good chance of getting in at penn. Some background about me, I am military child and am now on my fourth move, I moved at the beginning of my senior year to a new high school in Rhode Island. Through my father being in the United States Military I have taken advantage of all the community service opportunities I am offered and have accrued quite a collection of hours. Also, I have played football all four years of high schools and maintained high grades and GPA which I feel adds to my character and my application. Recently I applied to Princeton which has an acceptance rate of 6.5% and got deferred. Penn has an acceptance rate of 12% should I have a good chance of getting in if I got deferred from a school with a lower acceptance rate? I had my interview with Penn Alumni and felt I did very well as I was able to answer all questions given to me and really relate to what the interviewer and I were speaking about. Penn is my dream school and it would mean the world to me to attend and be in the class of 2021. Please give me some feedback it would be greatly appreciated!
I understand what you’re saying about each school being individual but, all ivy league schools are alike in one way they look for most of the same outstanding/elite qualities in an applicant some being more selective than others. I think it is fair to make the statement that my chances could increase when applying to another ivy with a higher acceptance rate because of another admissions notification that I have received.
Chances are not high for getting into Penn regardless of whether or not you got deferred from Princeton (they defer 78.9% of applicants). Your SAT/ACT and GPA are both lower than their average.
Have you been recruited for football anywhere? Did you or your guidance counselor explain why there’s a discrepancy between your GPA & your test scores, if there is in fact an explanation? Other than that, I think your chances for Penn are low, though your GPA & story may get you a second look at many LACs or other top schools.
Dear f2000sa,
Your posts are inaccurate as well, unless you have an uncanny ability to predict Penns acceptance for the coming years, you are also one who needs to check their information. Either answer the question, or keep your unwanted opinions to yourself. Thanks. Best Regards.
@sjae19 There is no need for such rudeness on this or any thread IMO. You are not the OP and should not decide what opinions are wanted or not by the OP. The stat that poster presented are not wildly off from what I can see.
And the number of applications has increased so it is reasonable to assume the acceptance rates will be somewhat lower this year.
But I would have to concur with the majority on this thread that barring any major hook that the OP’s standardized test scores appear just too low for Penn.
