Hello! I just applied to the NYU Tisch High School Summer Musical Theater Program, and I was wondering what the acceptance rates are? How much do they look at transcripts, resume, recommendations, etc? I'm in incoming Junior so I would be going in between my sophomore and junior year. Any idea what they are looking for or what they consider? And whats the general acceptance rate??

Some info about me:

GPA: 3.86 (at elite private school)

Resume: 10+ professional theater shows, 8 years of dance/acting training, 6 years of theater in new york, 4 school shows, 3 years of voice

Recommenders: English teacher and voice teacher (who has been on Broadway and has students at Tisch)

I think you look great! I applied to the summer program as well, except I want to go for film.

From what I’ve read, they accept approximately 40% of the applicants. (Their website says that about 500 people apply every year and 188 are chosen.)

Also, unfortunately you have a lower chance of getting in because you’re a sophomore because I hear they give insane priority to juniors going into senior year. :/

i applied for film this summer also as a junior, 4.4 gpa. i dont think you sophomores should count yourselves out! im sure that if they see something they like, they wont hesitate to let you in regardless of your age! i hope you all make it

and about the 500 kids who apply,
I read the same thing but whent they sent me the brochure, it said over 600 kids apply.
I guess the numbers have been increasing, and does anyone know exactly why they extended the deadline to the 16th of February? Was it because of some problems with online rec. sumbissions?

I think that there were so many issues with the online application and a lot of people had complained about not being able to submit. I mean they sent me an email by mistake saying that my application was incomplete, and then called me and told me about all of the issues with the technology…

Im wondering if maybe all the issues will decrease the number of applicants… I applied for the acting program. did anyone else??

I feel like the price of those programs, plus that they are so far away likely affected how many people applied. I bet it’s a lot less. Did you apply for NY or abroad? yeah theyre crazy expensive!

Yeah, I was considering applying for Dublin or even Singapore for film, which they announced once I was finishing up my essay, but I figured they’d look alot more into your app when your applying abroad. It sounds definitely awesome but definitely more selective.
What’s strange is that the singapore program was the only one that did NOT say preference is given to juniors, and referred the the students as sophomores AND juniors. Still the programs really new and I didn’t have much info on it and I already had and still set my mind on the nyc program.
Good luck to everybody in April!
