I go to a rigorous private school, ranked #3 in Ohio. The school only offers 11 APs, 3 of them which are fine arts. It also only offers 2 honors classes, and students can only take a maximum of 5 classes per semester, including the free period which 90% of students take. There is also a policy in which students are not allowed to take more than 3 APs per year. Because of this, the weighted GPA is lower than most other schools. Here are my stats:
Weighted GPA: 4.04
Unweighted GPA: 3.9 (I had to calculate this myself because the school only reports weighted GPA)
Standardized Tests:
SAT: 1500 (770 m, 730 rw)
SAT II Subject Tests: Biology, Math Level II (taking in August, expect 700-800)
ACT: Taking in September (Expect around 32, 33)
AP Tests: Biology - 4
Psychology - 5
School does not rank
Academic Honors:
Academic Honor Society
National Society of High School Scholars (the school isn’t a member of NHS)
National Spanish Exam Medal Winner (Gold last year, Silver this year)
Extracurriculars:
Varsity Tennis Team co-captain
Science Olympiad co-president
30+ hours volunteering/fundraising at local mosque
40+ hours volunteering at local hospital
75+ hours shadowing at local hospital
Muslim-American society member (organized Friday prayers at school)
Senior Year Classes (APs):
AP United States History
AP Calculus AB (school doesn’t offer BC)
AP Chemistry
Important Information:
Ethnicity: White (Middle Eastern)
Income: High
Gender: Male
State: Ohio
Sorry its so long, but thanks!
I would suggest posting in each university’s forum, the most knowledgeable replies will come from those with firsthand knowledge of the university. @NHuffer is a grad of GW and can give you some great insights. Good luck!
I didn’t even know you could do that. Thanks! @mommymetal
Thanks for the tag, @mommymetal
@sparkykoolkat you have very impressive stats- you should definitely feel proud. With that said, your chances of acceptance at GW are excellent. If you’re serious about GW be sure to do what you can to show interest: visiting and taking a tour of campus, speaking with the Admissions office, and reaching-out to your local GW Adkissions rep. Keep up the good work!
1500 SAT is good enough to put you in the running for basically any school, so expending energy on the ACT seems like a folly. Your stats are good, so put some good work in essays, supplements, and recommendations - and good luck with your subject tests. Great work, and hopefully we will see you Go Blue!
You seem really good all around. Northwestern is a reach for everyone, but your chances greatly improve if you ED, so I would consider that. All the other schools I would say you are likely to get in.
I’m very new to this board but wanted to reciprocate for your post on “my chances” thread. Reading around the other threads, I’m seeing suggestions of leadership in EC. You’ve got two good ones, but maybe try for another? I honestly am not sure, so just a stab in the dark here. Good numbers on all that volunteering! And I agree with other poster who said 1500 was a good score for SAT and you may not want to waste time on ACT.
Great SAT scores really set you apart from others.GPA is good in context. Great chance at most schools!
Good luck!
I know a couple kids who had basically identical stats as you (a little lower even), and they got into northwestern ED… maybe look into that option, because then I think you’d have a good chance at hitting one of the schools on ur list for sure.
GW and Ohio state should be solid matches for you, not sure about the other schools (I mean I’m not sure about their academic profiles, not that I’m not sure if you’ll be admitted).
Solid stats+ethnicity should get you into most of the list.
You have solid all around stats and ECs, so you’re definitely competitive for all your schools. I’d say you’ll make it into at least two of those schools.
Northwestern is your only reach I think, Michigan could be based on your major. I’d put NYU, Case, Tulane as matches, with GW and OSU safeties. Good luck!
Your stats are great and Northwestern is the only reach from that list. Northwestern is impossible to guess anyway, and I don’t know if your ECs are strong enough for it but I know nothing about you besides what you wrote & I bet youll have awesome essays and recs! Good luck!
