What are my chances?? Please!!!

Hi guys,
I'm an American born citizen but I live in Lahore, Pakistan. I took my SAT this December (1st attempt) and got 1620/2400 (CR 520, M580, W 520) I know it's pretty poor and i'm thinking of retaking in January and I bet I could break the 2000 barrier but i'm not sure if universities will accept my scores-I think i'll be late. I have got TONS of medicine related EC's including volunteering at a hospital, flood relief, Punjab Chief Minister Dengue Fever Task Force Student Leader, etc, etc. I also have a great essay-or so i've been told :P, great letters of recommendations and an overall good profile. The only thing is my SAT score :|
Also here in Pakistan we dont have any GPA or class ranks but my overall score is an A grade.
Do you think I could get into UCONN or even better into their accelerated med program (bs/md)
Please reply soon.
Thanks!

You always have a chance. You will most likely not get into the BS/MD program. You should retake the test before you apply to increase your score and your chances.

First off, thank you soo much for replying! I gonna appear for the SAT again in January but the score will be out by around Feb 5th. Will UCONN wait till Feb 5th or not?

Also, do you know any way to get my CR scores up because I mainly have a problem with that. I have really improved my math and I believe I’ll get around 720 (minimum).

shahzeb93,

UConn’s regular admissions deadline (the latest date you can submit an application) is February 1st. Because your scores do not come out until February 5th, you should probably email or call the university and ask them if they will accept these since they will only be a few days late. That is the best advice I can give since it is not worth risking it: just call/email them to be sure.

no that’s fine but I was wondering if I could get into the regular program at UCONN with THESE scores (1620).

I applied to the business school. I took the SAT four times and my super score is 510M 490R and 450W. My GPA is 2.61, but I took very hard classes. My grades are upward slopping. I am in state so I know my odds greatly improve. Is there anything that I can do to increase my chances? Thanks

justwaiting - Write an AMAZING essay and get equally AMAZING recs. Honestly, it probably won’t be enough to save you, but it’ll help your app at least.

I considered uconn business school my safe school. I figured that since I am in state and there are not too many jobs in Connecticut I could easily get into the business school. I was told that in order to get a job you need a trade. The business school should be empty, I thought they would be lucky to get me. I guess am going to church and pray that my essays are acceptable so that I can be a student today and a husky forever!!!

WHAT? ^^^^

I am sorry, but I have very high doubts for you. No offense.

good luck justwaiting1 but guys…what about me??!

Shah, This year could be tough because there are so many applicants submitting application. In my school some students submitt 15 apps. We are in a baby boom year, most state schools have too many apps and not enough room. If you show UCONN that you would really like addmission then after May your chances are increased. I know many people who were accepted in prior years with stats worse then mine.

ohh…okay. Thanks! But where else do you guys think I should apply. I think I could get around 700M, 650CR, 650-700W in my SAT this January; so what other colleges should I apply to with this new SAT score. Bear in mind I want to become a Doctor.

Eurosport, I received my acceptance to the business school, but as I said last time this is my safe school. Good luck all

Is the business school a completely different application? How did you get in with those numbers?
