Hello,
I am currently a senior undergraduate student in Florida about to apply for master’s programs. I would like to get into University of Miami’s Masters of International Administration program. What are my chances?
-I am an Anthropology major with a Political Science minor, and in my school’s Honors Program.
Most of my Political Science courses have been International Relations and Comparative Politics courses, and my Anthropology courses are mostly Cultural.
-I have had a prestigious Foreign Relations fellowship, as well as an internship in Public Policy and Advocacy at my city’s Chamber of Commerce this summer.
-I have also studied abroad, and speak three languages (including Spanish - near fluency).
-I am also a contributing member of a small non-profit organization started by a few students from the study-abroad, that just became state official recently (I do not know if I would be considered a founding member, since I don’t have an official position - but I might soon).
-I am an IB alum and am graduating a year early due to IB credits.
-I have a leadership position in my school’s Foreign Language Honor Society, as well as in our Anthropology Club.
-I have plenty of volunteer experience
I am mostly concerned if my GPA and GRE are high enough. My current GPA is a 3.75, and my GRE is a 303 on the new scale. I experienced a sudden death in the family the week before the GRE was scheduled, so I struggled to study and did not study at all for it, so I probably could have scored higher if I had studied. Although, I’m pretty happy with a 303 given the circumstances (and I do not wish to have to pay another $250-something to re-take the test.) Are 3.75 and 303 competitive enough for schools like University of Miami? I know 300 is their minimum, so should I be concerned that my score is barely above the minimum or does it not matter?
I also have one W on my transcript that concerns me. It was just from a wrong class I took that was bringing my other classes down too. Will that hurt my chances?
And feel free to recommend or suggest any other universities or programs, like in the case that my chances are not good or you see a possibly better fit for me.
Thank you!
