What are my chances?

Hi guys, I’ve been browsing through CC for maybe a year or so. I am currently a sophomore at Grace Church High School, which is a fairly prestigious albeit new private school in NYC. Up until last year, I was a straight A student with a few interspersed B’s. Last year, in 9th grade, I took World Literature, World History, Intensive Biology, Mandarin I, Latin III, Philosophy & Religion, and Intensive Geometry. I had a even combo of B’s and A’s with a C+ average in Intensive Geometry/ Trigonometry.

This year, I am taking History of the Americas, Literature of the Americas, Intensive Chemistry, Algebra II, Mandarin II, Latin IV, and Philosophy & Religion II.

What are my chances to get into a prestigious university (Yale is my top choice) with these classes as long as I get straight A’s?

Also, would it be better for me to switch to Model UN instead of Latin? I had it as an elective since 7th grade, including last year, but this year Latin IV is focusing on poetry and translation so it is a club.

PS- my extracurriculars include rowing, 3 years; violin, 10 years until 7th grade; guitar, just starting out.

You need to declare to us your exact stats first in order to be chanced properly.

You can’t really chance someone unless you have their SAT/AP/ACT scores – unfortunately, they are a vital part of the admissions process. I suggest that you stick with Latin! It shows dedication. A lot of students do Model UN. Unless, of course, you’re more interested in Model UN – when given a choice, don’t waste your time on something you don’t care for.

Invest in some AP classes and focus on getting that GPA up – if you’ve not taken APs yet, Ivies would expect a near-perfect average.

Fun Fact: I’m taking Latin, too! I really enjoy it (even though case endings make me internally scream) :((
It’s great that you’re forming a good plan in this grade.
Best of luck!
