Ok. So I have been stressing for about 8 years now about Harvard/Stanford…
I would like to broadcast my quintessential application and see what you guys think
My parents both have graduate degrees, but are both immigrants from Iran,
SAT: 1600
Essay: 8 8 8
GPA: 4.72
ACT: N/A
Two Subject tests:
Math: 800
Physics: 800
ECs:
Orchestra (4 years)
Swim (4 years)
President of 4 clubs, all related to my field of study to some degree
I would really appreciate the input of you users, thank you.
“Stressing for about 8 years” is NOT healthy!!!
NO ONE has good odds of getting into Harvard/Stanford… Take a look at their admit rates. http://www.businessinsider.com/ivy-league-harvard-yale-princeton-acceptance-rates-class-of-2021-2017-3
From pools of incredibly talented, qualified applicants, none has an admit rate of even 15%, with most in the single digits.
Hoping for Ivy is great. But spending almost half your life “stressing” over it is not healthy.
Find a wide range of schools where you can live and learn and grow. Sure, include Harvard/Stanford… but branch out beyond them. Then trust that you’ll end up where you should be.
Is this 8 years of stress somehow cultural? Family culture? Do you and your parents know much about other colleges in the US? I think it would be a good idea to get educated on lots of options. Having a “dream” school is often harmful. Just work hard, explore your interests, enjoy your friends, and apply to a range of schools.
Your scores and GPA are great, and put you in the running, but there is now way for any of us to know if the rest of your life, studies, pursuits and character will mean admission. It is okay to hope but it is NOT a disaster if you don’t get in.
