Hey, I'm in the summer after my Junior year in high school, and I'm a bit conflicted about schools to apply to. I tend to be pretty modest about my history, and because of this I don't know where I can get into because I generally sell myself short. But I've been prompted to post this to see whether or not I can actually make it into the prestigious Williams College. My GPA is between an A- and an A, and I've taken every single advanced course offered in my school, and I'm an IB Diploma candidate. I took the SAT: M-700 V-700 W-660 but I plan to take it over...and the ACT: Composite- 31, E-29, M-32, G-29, S-32...I have a 620 on the Math IC SAT II but I plan on taking the IIC, the IC again, and the U.S. history and I am going to work until they are all at or around 700. I also am the ace on my varsity baseball team, I won all league and I plan on playing for Williams... I ran varsity cross country in 10th grade, I'm in the National Honor Society, the National Spanish Honor Society, and the National Science Honor Society, I am looking at a very nice recommendation from my guidance counselor and teacher recommendations should be equally nice. Though I don't know what makes me stand out that would help me get admitted into the schools like the Ivies, or schools equally strong in academics. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Are you a URM? It would help if you were. Since you are a baseball star that should help too. Everything else seems good, but you might want to increase your SAT scores a bit, especially writing and Math IIC.

I apologize I do not know what a URM is, I appreciate your post, I am quite interested in Williams college. If there is any more advice you have I would really appreciate it as well. Thanks again

URM=under-represented minority (black, Hispanic, or native american)

talk to the baseball coach, simple as that. Unless you absolutely crush your SAT's on your next try, you are probably a long-shot at Williams w/out help from a coach, but certainly not such a long shot that it's not worth applying. Do you have any other activity or job besides baseball that you've been committed to? Any leadership?

However, if you are a tip, meaning a highly recruited athlete who can make an immediate impact on the baseball team, your numbers and overall profile should be strong enough to merit admission, given your solid academics overall. The coach can definitely give you an idea how badly he wants you on the team.

If not a tip, I'd say you are probably in the ballpark for Bowdoin, Middlebury and Haverford, and a likely admit at places like Bates, Colby, Conn College, Trinity.
