I'm sorry to say it, but I don't think your chances are that good at this point. Out of state admissions are very difficult and your SAT scores essentially put you out of the running.. are you a junior or senior? If you're a junior, you have plenty of time to raise your SAT scores. That would help tremendously, because the rest of your stats are perfectly on par. If you're a senior, I guess all you can do is sit back and wait.

i have to disagree a little..yeah your SAT's are a little bit low, but you have a lot of ec's...so if you play an important role an each...are a good writer...and have good recs...i think you have an ok chance. sometimes scores just aren't everything

you def are in a good rank and gpa, so keep it up!

Your grades and activities look good but, I will say that if you are a junior try and raise your SATs. I would also try the ACT, personally, I did better on the ACT than the SAT. BTW I go to Saint Pius X High School in Pottstown.

To those who disagree with me - I have pretty much the exact same stats (GPA and EC's) as PatM, excellent essays and recs, AND I got a 2100 on my SAT, and I was rejected. W&M is getting tougher and tougher for out of state apps. So again, I'm going to reiterate that if you want to get in, really try to raise your scores.

I have to agree with kelliebm, I was waitlisted with a 4.0 GPA and 1980 SAT. Try and raise your SAT scores If you are sure you want to go to W&M and it is your top choice, I would apply early decision. Early decision is binding.

Me too. This is a lot of wishful thinking. You can try. I'd not hold my breath. Just too many competitors with better #s and geography. PA's like an attached county to VA when it comes to Wm*Mary. However, if it really was, then maybe a different scenario.

While lower SATs can be compensated for by a GPA and ECs, you also need to consider rigor of academic program and what makes you unique and special and will contribute to the W&M community of learners.

My daughter is a HS junior as well and every tour we've been on, they stress the rigor of your HS curriculum - you need to have at least 4 years of English, math, science, foreign language and don't slack off senior year and take all easy courses, you need to challenge yourself. A high GPA is much less impressive when the courses were not challenging.

The other thing is to show what makes you unique or special, what you are passionate about, what you have to offer that makes you stand out from the other 25,000 applicants who all have good GPAs, top 10% of their class and were president of three clubs, started three years on the tennis team, and helped old ladies across the street every Saturday morning for three years. My son, currently a sophomore at W&M, demonstrated his passion for writing and journalism through multiple activities -- school (journalism classes, newspaper editor, multiple journalism awards, literary magazine) and scouts (started a troop newsletter, served on newspaper staff at National Jamboree). Full disclosure: although out of state, he is a legacy so probably got evaluated on standards closer to those for in-state than non-legacy out-of-staters.

What is your passion and how have you pursued that passion in all facets of your life? Have you been a leader just at school? Or also at your church, in your community, in scouts, in local politics?

Oh, and it couldn't hurt to take the SATs again to get those scores up, and to try the ACT.

PatM..............it's more than that. How many AP's did you take? How many years of a foreign language? Do you have an AP in your foreign language? Did you take AP Calculus? Did you fluff up with Culinary Arts, Shop, Tech Drawing, etc? I'm an in-state male and my SAT's basically sucked. After three times, the highest I got was a 1290. I did score 31 on the ACT. I think that helped. I also took a very rigorous course load, was in the top 5% of my graduating class and had over a 4.0 at graduation. I applied with a 3.9I think. So, I was no stellar admit, however I was in-state and William and Mary knew I wanted to come and that it was by far, my first choice. I'm a junior now and doing very well here. I was well prepared for the rigors of W&M. SAT scores and ACT scores are not everything............but they do show the potential to do well and to handle a tough school.

Take them again. Take the SatII's in an area you are very proficient. Take the ACT................take the ACT again.

After my daughter got in, we visited. When we went to our informative session, one of the admission advisors talked about some of the things that sold the kids. As a parent, what I heard was the individual page where you talk about yourself. One person sent a CD, one person made a collage, one person actually sent his hockey stick and wrapped information about himself around the stick. All of your other credentials will count, but make yourself stand out. Take the ACT and take your SAT again. They look at either test. It is a beautiful school. Good luck. We are from Ohio. It is a small town. Also, FYI the best time to score high on the ACT according to my daughter is the June test--the numbers play out to your advantage.
