What are my chances?!

what are my chances at getting into bio at NYU

I am a junior in HS, i am expected to get around a 1250 for my SAT's and am planning on taking the ACT's (28-30). I dont have any SAT II's mainly because many of the schools i want will take the ACT instead and dont even reccoment the SAT II. But anyway, I have a 3.8 GPA 2nd decile in a VERY competative high school in Clarkstown New York (first decile starts at 4.1 and goes to 4.7....HOW SICK IS THAT!?!?!) ok well...ive taken a pretty tough courseload through HS...heres what im working with

Citizenship Award, Whos Who Among American HS students (3 years). I also played hockey for 2 years in HS. ive also done this school representative council for 3 years...elected twice

gotta get your SAT score up or you're gunna get stuck in GSP

Not necessarily...people have gotten in to CAS with lower scores than that.

Oh, and one more thing, Matt, that was me last night who accidentally sent the invite for hearts...hahaha. I don't know how I did it, but somehow I invited everyone on my buddy list to play hearts with me.

hey do you go to south? :O

you seem interested in engineering. If you're a girl, that will most definitely help you. And correct me if I'm wrong, but I dont think NYU has engineering. I know BU does though. Youre SATs are pretty low for CAS, but your ECs are great. Make sure when you write up your resume fro colleges that you elaborate on your responsibilities in the clubs and write that you started them and are an original member or whatever. You sound very accomplished. Thats great. I'm also not sure about this, but I thought CAD was a really elaborate program. Its great that you know it. Talk about that too on your resume. Idk. I guess if you want to major in bio NYU is a good place, but you should try some places that have good engineering in case you want to swtch majors or take some engineering classes. I know BU has great engineering (my brother graduated from it) and many ppl compare BU and NYU (even though i dont agree) so maybe you'll like BU too. But good luck. It's a though process. Dont let terrible admissions ppl get you down!!

you're right originally i was interested in engineering but those classes actually turned me away from it....i wanna do medical so thats why im interested in bio. I was actually planning on using my ACT which is gonna be around a 28-29....

btw yes i am from south...you go there, went there?

are the sat and act scores based on previous testing or the current tests because, and I'm not too sure how the new tests are scored, but if either are the new test scores then you have no chance or at best your parents will have to pay a lot for you to go to GSP

NYU and Stevens Inst. Tech. in Jersey have a joint-engineering program.

ok...but im looking at bio not engineering

I was responding to Chrisso620.

Get the SAT scores up, they are on the low side. Absolutely take the SAT IIs, even though they are not strictly required and only reccomended; most NYU admits have taken the SAT IIs and done well.

Your grades and EC's seem pretty solid. It's really the test scores you should work on. Even though SAT scores aren't everything, you are below NYU's average, and even more below the CAS average. You don't need to get perfect scores, but a modest improvement combined with the other factors in which you are strong should put you in a decent position. Also remember to focus on getting strong reccs and writing a great esssay.

Good luck and keep us posted.
