I am definitely applying to the UC Schools (Berkeley is my number one choice, followed by UCLA), USC, Duke, Cornell, Northwestern, NYU, and I will apply to the Harvard’s and Yale’s of the eastcoast but I do not have much hope for them. Stanford has always been one of my highest choices as well but I don’t think my chances are very high.

My grades have gotten better since freshman year. They started out as a 4.0 weighted GPA (I’ve always taken the hardest classes possible, all honors), 4.2 sophomore year, and this year I’m looking at a 4.8 or possibly a 5.0 weighted GPA. Basically, my grades show a trend of improvement as I progress.

Schools that look at only sophomore and junior year will see a 4.4/4.5 average GPA with very rigorous AP and honors classes.

My junior year courses:
AP BC Calculus
Spanish 4 Honors
English 3 Honors
AP Language
AP US History
Physics Honors

I will be taking around 9 or 10 AP classes by the time I graduate high school.

I’ve only taken practice SAT’s and am currently taking classes but I’m looking at around a 2100/2200

My strongest resume aspect are my extracurriculars:

Panacea (Founder, President) -I started a club at my high school called “Panacea” and the club has grown to be one of the largest clubs on campus. The word Panacea means cure-all and the club is a world/community service club focusing on wordly issues. We work with a number of organizations such a Save Darfur, the IRC, and various refugee based organizations. I spend several hours a week tutoring refugee children from Somalia and teaching them English and helping them with school work. The club has over 100 members and provides weekly volunteer opportunities for students.

Speech and Debate (Vice-President this year, hopefully President next year) - My partner and I competed at the Harvard Invitational Tournament last year and were ranked Top 30 out of 260 competing teams. We were 5th at the Arizona State Tournaments, and won several local tournaments. We are competing in Public Forum Debate this year as well and hoping for much higher rankings. (I know it’s difficult to predict with hypotheticals but our chances are extremely high)

Model UN- (Vice President)

Mock Trial -A Team

Member of several other community service clubs and active with volunteering at their events (Interact, ACTION, etc.)

I also volunteered with the local Barack Obama campaign and have earned around 10 hours so far. I am also volunteering on election day at the polls and earning over 20 hours of community service.

**Outside of school, I am also a member of the City of Scottsdale Mayor’s Youth Council. It is a city wide council for high school students getting involved in political aspects of the city and earning community service hours. I am running for Vice President, or possibly President of the council in a few weeks. I’m not sure how it will turn out but I’m predicting a high possibility at VP.

^^ I am extremely interested in politics and hope to pursue some sort of career in politics in the future.

Summer of 2008
- Volunteered for the Mary Manross Campaign, the Mayor of Scottsddale
- Worked at NYPD, a local restaurant

Summer of 2009 (Future Plans)
I am applying for several different internships either as a page, or for the DNC
If those do not work out, I will work as an intern for a law firm in Phoenix
I will also be attending a 2 week trip to South America to further my study of spanish and work with poor children in the country

Journalism Experience
- Journalist for AZ Teen Magazine (A large, popular magazine in Arizona for teenagers covering local and national issues) Freshman year-graduation

SPORTS (not too strong, but not my biggest passion)
- Soccer Player (JV freshman, sophomore year, Varsity-Junior, Senior year)
- Track and Field (freshman, sophomore)

**I also come from a Persian background and am able to fluently speak, read, and write in Farsi. I spent a year teaching elementary/middle school kids how to read and write in the language.

Since I’m only a junior I don’t know how strong everything else will be. However, I’m typically a pretty good writer so I will hopefully have a strong essay and strong recommendations from my teachers and councelor.

Please let me know what my chances are at the type of schools I am applying to! Thank you : )))
