What are my chances?

Hey all, just got my SAT II scores back for Math I, and I was wondering what my chances were of getting into Harvard Here are my specs as of right now:

SAT I's: 2230 - M790CR710W730, Essaay 8 (this is my first time taking them)
SAT II's: Just got my first one back - 770 Math level 1. >>
GPA: 4.74 cumulative, class rank = 18/474 for freshman and sophomore years.
ECs: Went to China summer between 9th and 10th grade and taught english for a week to impoverished children in villages. Made my own textbook and put up fliers, etc.
- Treasurer of Math Honor Society
- Member of French/Science/National Honor Society
- Member of some clubs (not really significant, no officer places)
- Member of JV soccer team, didn't make varsity this year though.
- Plays basketball for county - just a rec team though.
- Member of Richmond Symphony Youth Orchestra Association
That's basically it, probably missed some things.

Your scores and stats are solid, but your ECs are weak. (If I was an adcom, the week in China the summer after freshman year would not impress me, and neither would honor societies.) Write killer essays and get great recs and cross your fingers.

why did you take Math I, harvard wants Math II typically

I agree with ^, I know you probably spend a lot of time after school doing these things, but you do not have anything AMAZING in your ECs (thats what he means by weak)
That will kill you, these elite schools want demi gods

asian who went to china and plays in the orchestra. sounds like a million other kids. try something different. do something unique. life (and admissions) isn’t about fitting into a cookie cutter mold of the “ideal” harvard applicant

^what would you suggest me do? I’m thinking of doing an internship this summer at the local medical college because I might pursue a career in medicine, but that sounds really stereotypical too :/

kevaoe, don’t worry about it.

Do things that you are passionate about.

I think the adcom will look at your summers in China teaching English and go… hmm, what else did he do that showed he was passionate about children? English? Nothing? Well, he was obviously doing it to get in to college.

Build a theme in your life. Around your ECs. And everything else.

Okay but dont put too much stock in my words. I mean my stats and ecs are not as great as yours and I’m still applying.

LOL

Hey,
I just want to encourage you. I was accepted to Harvard this year, and I wouldn’t say my EC’s are SPECTACULAR. I did a lot, and I participated in everything as much as I could, but I didn’t discover the cure for cancer or win any national awards. I played a few sports, went on a missions trip, was in a bunch of clubs, did the yearbook, music, etc. All of them were very normal things that you probably have the opportunity to do. I had good SAT’s, though not anything that Harvard doesn’t see much (2290 SATI, 740/740/700 SATII, 35 ACT). I go to a tiny public school that has never sent anyone to Harvard and doesn’t even offer AP’s. I still got into Harvard. I’ve never had cancer or beaten any incredible odds. I’d say nothing about me is AMAZING, but I’m just a well-rounded student. I didn’t think I could get in, but I did. I think that if you work hard and get good grades, participate in a good variety of activities, and just put your heart into your essay and interview, you have a good shot. Honestly, there’s no way anyone can chance you for Harvard because decisions seem to be so random. Just try your best, and if you don’t get in, don’t worry about it. You’ll do well wherever you are as long as you’re determined.

compare to those who boast their 2400
you sound like a real Harvard student keren34. Although you said that you didn’t think you’d get in, you really showed your value by your post!
excuse me for posting this kevaoe, but can someone estimate my chances also?
