What are my chances?

Honestly everyone, and no offense, but I see no use in creating a chance thread. First, admission is not all about stats; admission officers consider each application holistically. Of course you can say that your essays and recs were good, but how good were they exactly? Second, people who "chance" are mostly boarding school applicants themselves, they don't know what goes on behind-the-scenes. One thing I notice is that answers to chance threads are usually very generic, e.g "You definitely stand a good chance" or "I'd say you have decent stats" etc. Third, different schools look for different kinds of students, that's why many people get accepted to a top school but get rejected to a less prestigious one. What do you think? "What are my chances?"

I don’t see much use in creating this thread either, no offense. It has been reiterated, by many members of this community–knowledgeable and not–that such threads serve little, if any purpose, in the end.

The generic approach by people such as you is that members are incapable of judging an applicant. Posters such as me are, indeed, incapable of doing so. However, for every swarm of posters like me, there will be a handful of those who ARE able to give worthwhile advice. In most cases, this “worthwhile” advice is distinct from the others–maybe not different, but distinct.

For those who choose to make such threads, this is the advice for which they are looking. More than anything, it is a “solicited advice” type of thread.

Wow, Principal, I did not know that this thread has been reiterated. I’m sorry if that upsets you.
I do agree with you that there are some members who give constructive criticism. At some points, boarding school applicants need to know where they stand in such a large and competitive admission pool. However, I think chance threads are only especially helpful for insecure ones who have less-than-perfect scores. For those who receive all A’s and got SSAT scores in the 90’s, which forms the most part of the people on CC, chance threads serve little purpose. Also, did you notice that the Prep School Chances forum is pretty inactive, which means there are not many truly helpful members on?
Just what I think. I’m very sorry if any of you finds my thread offensive.

Sorry if it came off as that. I appreciate this. The thread, per se, has not be reiterated, just the sentiment within.

I agree with most of what you have said. It is rare, yes, for someone of actual knowledge to open his/her mouth. That being said, if it secures someone who happens to be insecure for no net loss, why not?

It didn’t offend me, by the way, it was a point that needed to be made.

I agree with your motives, assign, in creating this thread.
