Im very curious to what my future looks like as acceptance rates are getting lower and lower and i was wondering if you guys could give me a realistic perspective on my odds. I plan on applying to UPenn (parents wanted me to apply to 1 Ivy), Berkeley (Im a CA resident), USC, UCLA, UW, UT at Austin, UCSB, and SMU. I am also a first generation college students and Hispanic. I will end up graduating with a 3.7 UW and a 4.2 W, and im scoring around a 1300-1400 on the new SAT and i plan on taking that in September/October. I have decent E.C.'s (Ambassador, volleyball, tutor, secretary of my club, and about 200 hours of community service). I also will have taken 6/7 AP classes by the time i graduate. Any input is helpful thank you
Keep trying your best, experience new things and explore what you really like; not much else advice to give
You’ll likely get in to where you deserve to get in. It really is impossible to predict where anyone might end up, but as long as you try your hardest you should have no reason to complain.
Your ‘hooks’ are good and it looks like your stats are good (but if you manage to raise that SAT it would be a good thing). I wish your ECs were a little more distinguished…or that they told a little more of a story (what, though, is the club you are secretary of?). It would be great if you had some demonstrated leadership–not necessarily being a club officer but being in charge of some kind of initiative or project that yielded demonstrable (measured is ideal) results…something, too, that reflected your long-term passions and interests.
The admissions game has gotten brutal. Your scores would have gotten you in everywhere 10 years ago…today, not so much. Use this summer wisely and do something really interesting with your summer job, or your summer hobby.
Also, you might want to expand your school list a little more to include a few great schools where you would be sought after (Tulane? Rice?)
Thank you so much mayorshinn for your advice, i am secretary of the ronald mcdonald club (we go to the house and prepare meals and help clean and stuff like that) but i was also looking into a possible business related internship for this summer where i hope this will make me stand out a little more. would this help at all?
