Toby, I think 8K was the cost per semester at EMU.

To further clarify, the 8K COA at EMU was for one semester, with room and board. Tuition and fees for two semesters is approx $8400.

Getting into MSU with a weighted 3.4 isn’t going to make it. Plus, it’s way too far to commute and he won’t get merit money there. I think the student’s best bet is to start at MCC for two years and then transfer to whichever four year school is closest to home. Remember that the American Opportunity Credit will give you $2,500 per year which would basically pay for community college and that money can be put aside for when the student transfers. Or if community college is really out, then commute from home to Wayne or Oakland using the amount you’re willing to contribute plus the money from AOP. Wayne may also give some merit money.

Someone mentioned Albion, COA is around $42,000/year.

Your S could visit & see if he likes it, then apply for admission & financial aid & then see what happens. Make sure the FA office is aware of all your “special circumstances” and give them the documentation of what has happened with your finances. You really never know until you apply, nothing ventured, nothing gained as the saying goes.
