Also meant to add that Eckerd has a program with Stetson Law School of a guaranteed admission if GPA is 3.3 or greater and LSAT is greater than 50% plus a minimum of $15,000 per year at Stetson.
@ECmotherx2 thanks for the tip! Eckerd was definitely on my radar…
Plus, Eckerd has its own private beach!
Your stats are really strong. If you don’t qualify for financial aid, find a reach school and apply Early Decision. I’m partial to Wesleyan but there are plenty of great schools.
You’ve gotten some great ideas. I would suggest having a money talk with your parents and running NPC calculators on schools like those on @merc81’s list. If your parents are ok with the price tag, applying to a reach school ED would be a great strategy for you.
If you want another urban choice Macalester is strong in economics and is in the city. Not as urban as UChicago obviously. Too small though?
Take a look at Willamette in Salem, Oregon. It’s probably a safety for you, and you’d likely get some merit aid. The main reason to look at it is that it’s right across the street from the Oregon State capitol building and there are opportunities to do internships at the state government level. It’s one of the CTCL (Colleges That Change Lives) schools. Salem is not a big city but it only an hour from Portland if you crave some urban action.
A little bit about the DC schools:
Georgetown has a cutthroat culture. Very preppy. Very wealthy. Really pretty campus, great name recognition, but if you’re not looking for a hyper-competitive school, I would not suggest Georgetown.
George Washington is equally preppy and wealthy, but has a slightly less cutthroat environment. If you wanna live in the heart of downtown DC, you’d love GWU. It’s located in Foggy Bottom and is only a short walk away from the national mall! The Elliott School of International Affairs is highly regarded.
American is not as preppy but equally wealthy (the kids there do not flaunt it as much). It has a very politically active student body, but not necessarily cutthroat. In the past, it’s been viewed as inferior to “the George’s”, but in recent years it’s academic profile has risen (25% acceptance rate this year!). The School of International Service is excellent, but if IR isn’t your thing, the School of Public Affairs has a major called CLEG (communications, law, economics, and government) which is as cool as it sounds!
They are all equally amazing schools, and you will get a great education regardless. However, I am definitely biased towards American (Go Eagles!!!)
@bkhosh99 I visited Georgetown and it definitely did not seem cutthroat compared to somewhere like Johns Hopkins? What makes it so cutthroat?
@smilingalong maybe cutthroat isn’t the right word for it, but if you go to Georgetown (or really any DC school) you will constantly be competing for internships (and then jobs) against your peers. I imagine Hopkins is cutthroat in the sense that everyone is trying to be at the top of the class, whereas at the DC schools everyone is trying to have the best resume and the most prestigious internships.
Someone mentioned Brandeis. It is not a safety. In fact, it is one of the more difficult schools to get into.
