What are some conservative colleges?

It seems like almost every description of a college I read mentions liberal students.

I personally am a quite conservative person, so I was hoping somebody could recommend a few conservative schools for me to take a look at. I want to stay in the northeast...I am aware that cuts off a lot of my options because the South has some conservative/Republican schools. But can anyone think of any in the Northeast? If you can't think of any that you'd classify as conservative, can you think of any that are at least more conservative than many others?

Dartmouth, Boston College...off the top of my head. Though I wouldn't consider them conservative, they are more conservative than say, Swarthmore.

yah Boston College and maybe Tufts ( i'm not sure about this one though)

I'm don't know if they're considered conservative but if you take a look at some of the Catholic/Jesuit schools you're bound to find a decent percentage of conservative students... also what kind of conservative are you talking about? just overally or fiscally, socially etc? I know fiscally conservative (pretty moderate overall though) people who are perfectly content at Villanova, Fairfield, BC, Holy Cross. Washington & Lee is in VA but it's known for being conservative.
Also look at Colgate, Lehigh, Princeton (? or so i've heard... probably mostly fiscally conservative?) , and Hamilton

Thanks everybody for your help. I was considering Catholic colleges (BC, HC, ND) because they seemed like a good ideology match, so I'm glad a couple of people confirmed that they would be...I hadn't heard anything about Colgate, Hamilton, Lehigh, Dartmouth, so I will look into those.
The only suggestion I am hesitant about is Tufts...I have actually heard that it's quite liberal. But I could be wrong. Can anyone confirm Tufts one way or the other?

Thanks again!

Villanova's conservative? We live in a VERY liberal area.

Well, I'm not sure if Villanova is conservative overall but like I said above, it is a Roman Catholic school, my RC HS is pretty conservative and we send a good number of girls to Villanova every year and they love it, so I would guess Villanova is at least moderate with a decent number of conservatives

I found USC to be super-conservative. I was there during the 2000 election, and it got fiesty. I think it's influenced by the suprising number of Catholics there.

its tough to find politically conservative in the northeast so i extended it a little bit, and also included schools that may not be dominately republican but have a significant republican voice:
Washington & Lee
Davidson
James Madison
Providence College
Boston College
Holy Cross
Georgetown
the military academies
Bucknell
Fairfield U (CT)
Seton Hall
Trinity (CT)
Richmond
UVA

im pretty sure Tufts is liberal. I'd look at Villanova, Trinity (CT), Colgate, Lehigh, Bucknell, Fairfield, Connecticut College, U. Delaware, Loyola-Maryland, and Boston College. Southern schools like Duke, Vandy, Wake aren't really that "southern" but are politically moderate/conservative.

Tufts is liberal.
Connecticut College is most definitely not politically conservative- people who apply there tend to also apply to brown, wesleyan, vassar.

wake forest, all the military academies, gonzaga,

it depends on what sense of conservative you mean... politics only? no drinking/drugs?

Holy Cross is pretty conservative. There's a big mix there because Massachusetts Catholics tend to be liberal but many students there are from other places.

For instance, my good friend goes there and he is very liberal but his roommate is a conservative with a Bush cardboard cutout in their room. That's the reason why I ended up not applying there. :p

I agree that Villanova is conservative RELATIVE to the typical selective private college in the Northeast. Middlebury also has a healthy population of conservative students. If you like what you see at Lehigh and Bucknell, look at Lafayette.

wesleyan? don't inhale? whhhaa?

Agree Holy Cross is a mixture of conservatives and liberals as demonstrated by its alumni on the Supreme Court, Congress, and well known talk show hosts.

What are differences between fiscal and social conservatism?

Amina, the list said Wesleyan College, not Wesleyan University (in Connecticut). There are many schools called Wesleyan, and many of them are Christian or historically Christian.

dwincho, fiscal conservatism refers to your standing on economic policy like who should be taxed, at what rate, and what the government should be spending its money on.

Social conservatism refers to your standing on more interpersonal issues like sexual privacy, the death penalty, public-school curriculums, etc.

What the TRULY conservative positions are within those areas (especially within fiscal conservatism) is very much a matter of debate. At the moment, there are people who call themselves conservatives who disagree with one another strongly on most of the individual issues.

Furman, although it's still kinda in the South
