What are some good LACs in or close to major cities?

Goucher in Baltimore and UPS in Tacoma

vossron… LA is not just 90017… it is really a contiguous set of suburbs about 35 miles square  The term is used informally in the same way you would use “Bay Area”.

Plus, Claremont is twice the size of Northfield, and has many more neighboring colleges.

hudson-- yes, the ivies + Brandeis are considered national U’s as they have significant graduate programs, although their schools of arts & sciences would be considered to have ‘liberal arts’ curricula. Richmond is considered as a national LAC by US News…moved from a regional school category to LAC a few years ago.

Lewis and Clark in Portland

Wheaton in Norton, MA

Papa Chicken – Actually, most research universities have colleges of arts and science with offerings similar to LACs. Those schools or colleges are LACs within the university. As for US News, they can have their opinion and I’ll have mine. I am not a real fan of what they do so I’ll just note that Richmond offers graduate degrees, inluding the MBA, through Robbins and they also have a law school. LACs don’t normally offer JDs and MBAs. But I agree you can argue this either way.
