Could you give me good Massachusetts universities or good schools that have a good Greek life/party scene with good academics all over the country? Obviously academics is first but I’d like to enjoy my college years
@sciencekid28 I want a good balance of Greek life/partying, but I plan to attend law school after my undergrad at a prestigious law school. I want a good well known state school that is good and has a balance of education and partying. But education is number one, I’d rather be at a boring school with amazing curriculum than to be at a party school with a bunch of losers. I was thinking about UC Boulder and adding University of Alabama to my list. What do you think? You know any other great universities that have what I’m looking for, considering my statistics? Is saint Johns out of reach? Your being so helpful and I appreciate it to so much
@Abuaqel98 What’s your major?
@sciencekid28 I want to do either electrical engineering or Public Relations. I’m guessing my majors would be Engineering or Journalism.
Look at these:

Use the following site to determine if a school is out of reach:

Type in the school
it’s collegeboard
click applying
then click ACT/SAT
OP you have a lot of ambition for your GPA and standardized test score posted.
Forget Greek/partying. You are too weak of a student. You would wash out in your freshman year at college.
I have a nephew in law school - he is #2 in his class at a very good reputation school. He was very strong on academics, high stats (V in HS, ACT of 33 or 34, but even more impressive from college - Rhodes finalist, summa cum laud, etc, triple major). He has a PhD, taught at University/tenure track, published a book used in academic circles. Recruited by sizable/prestigious NY law firm for his last internship next summer. Very smart students work very hard.
There are a lot of weak law students out there; graduating with high debt and may even have to take a paralegal job after law school just to start paying on the debt.
You will have to be passionate about what you are pursuing academically to be a decent UG student.
Have you been applying yourself in HS? GPA typically will be lower in college than HS even with a lot more effort.
What do your parents think?
@SOSConcern Rephrase what you mean… I average a 3.5 gpa when I try in school. I didn’t try freshman year
If you truly want Engineering, as another poster said, could look at UW-Plattville. Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) - depending on your engineering passion and if you can do more than your ACT cumulative shows.
Honestly, you may not have been very passionate about school in HS.
I would seek out the UG degree you are most passionate about - with some aptitude. If you cannot do the calculus, physics, etc as FR/SO, you won’t get through the JR/SR upper division engineering courses.
Maybe you think PR because you have charm/charisma - but sales would probably be better (marketing).
What does your GC and parents say?
I am very strong at mathematics if i put my mind to the test… My GC is a scumbag that doesn’t help and always is a jerk to me for no reason (Never got in trouble or did anything bad)
Im very good at physics too
If i tried in HS I would have a 31 ACT and a 3.7 UGPA. I’m a smart guy, but i cant explain that to the admissions office. I’m a brilliant student when i try @SOSConcern. Going into college I very much regret my high school mistakes. I didn’t try freshman and sophmore year, but realized that I needed to do good in Junior year and did very well. I had a 3.6 gpa last year. Im in all honors
MSOE may be a good place for you - if the tuition is affordable for your family. H graduated from MSOE.
I know UW-Plattville is reputable; know some eng grads from there.
Wonder if Iowa State would accept you. Good engineering school. Nephew graduated with ChE from there.
Don’t know anything about the smaller Illinois publics that may have engineering. Your stats aren’t strong enough for UIUC.
Are you truly passionate with engineering? H was - he had to really apply himself in college because he wasn’t keen on school, but is a very bright and talented ECE.
You will need to work for your grades in college - more so than what you have even putting the burners on as a JR/SR. MSOE had a huge freshman attrition when H was there - they allowed students to come that may not have had great academic preparation. H had to take summer calculus to catch up on the math after his freshman year, because he didn’t take high enough math in HS.
There is strategy in test taking - have you done ACT more than once?
Knowing you have aptitude (and you have confidence), you will need to consistently applying yourself in college to succeed. The consistent effort, good study skills, preparing way ahead are all important.
DD had a 4.0/4.2 weighted in HS at a very strong private college prep program, and worked up to Presidential Scholarship with ACT score. She has a solid GPA in college, but she is working hard for it too. She has engineering chops.
Any engineers or scientists in your family OP?
I have some engineers in my family, but mostly everyone in my family is a doctor. @SOSConcern I want to go to a college where I will enjoy my college years, but build up a very strong resume in college.
There are many very smart kids that cannot score higher than ACT 29 but are very successful in their college courses because they had worked hard going into college and have the study skills; and then there are kids that can score higher on ACT but wash out in college because they cannot consistently apply themselves to the academic rigor. I know of such a student - never had to study in HS for all A’s (but didn’t take any AP) but couldn’t make the college transition, even with ACT 34.
“If I tried in HS I would have ACT 31”. With effort, your ACT score can come up. Even a composite at least a few points higher than you are now, at 23, may be the difference in admission acceptance.
I believe from some compiled data that ACT 28 is at 93%, ACT 29 is at 95%, and ACT 30 is at 97%. By the time one is at ACT 32 or 33, you are at 98/99%. Know of several students who could not break above ACT 29.
Your GC must have written you off for some reason. Are your parents guiding you at all with the college search?
You would enjoy Milwaukee and MSOE I think. There are a number of colleges in Milwaukee, so plenty of socialization. Since MSOE has a focus on engineering, you can probably find students you like and can maybe study with. H did plenty of group studying, and had a nice circle of friends. The intramural sport activities might give you an element of fun.
Nephew liked Iowa State.
Platteville is a bit of smaller town, not a very big campus. Based on what you said, would not probably be enough of your type of fun.
You don’t have a huge track record with academics. Wherever you go, you are going to need to pay attention to the syllabus, doing the outside of class studying and being prepared for class, quizzes, and tests. If something needs to be electronically submitted at 11:00 pm, it will be a zero at 11:01 pm submission.
There are plenty of distractions at every school. You need to be protective of the reasons you are at college - getting the education and the degree.
I’m kind of guiding myself @SOSConcern. My Guidance Counselor is an old, lonely, and miserable man. I don’t understand why he is mad but I am always nice to him and i’ve never disrespected him. Maybe it is because I am Muslim and he is a brother at my catholic high school…
You will probably have a better chance at admission if you visit these schools too.
Can you receive some help from other faculty? Maybe Ass’t Principal can help direct you to some additional help. What about your current science/math/physics instructors?
Are you signed up to re-take ACT or SAT? You need to do some preparation so you can finish the sections on time. Any test prep help available? Do practice test sections.
ANYONE??
