Hi guys!
I am going to be a junior in the upcoming school year and I have no idea what some of my safety school would be. I can look into any schools in California or the East Coast only. I really need help creating a list of safety schools. I am from California and I think that I am going to major in Human Biology or Genetics.

How much money is affordable to you and your family? Until you have test scores, it is difficult to determine which schools would be a safety. If you are a CA resident, I would look at your local Cal State. Tuition is very affordable for most applicants and you get priority as a local in-service area applicant.

Start by looking at less selective schools in the University of California or Cal State systems.
These should cover a broad enough range of admission selectivity to provide a safety for a student with your GPA. Once you’ve picked a couple of candidates, verify that your family can afford the sticker prices, or else run the online net price calculators to see if they are affordable after need-based aid.
If your test scores are high enough, you may qualify for admission with guaranteed merit scholarships at some of the schools listed here:

If cost isn’t an issue and your scores are high enough, many other options open up … but not necessarily any that are clearly more attractive, for cost and quality, than any of the UCs. In case you’re interested in a small East Coast liberal arts college, check out New College of Florida. Solid academics, beautiful location, not super selective, and not too expensive for out-of-state students.

My family and I have both saved up a lot of money for me to go to college and I don’t think it’ll be an issue.

@thenorthface101 have a conversation with them and find out exactly how much they can afford to pay per year. If you are going to need any kind of aid, that will be really important in coming up with a list of safeties. If not, then like others have said, you have a lot more options. Regardless, we need more information about what you’re looking for in order to make appropriate suggestions. Are you looking for small schools, large schools, or somewhere in between? Urban, suburban or rural? Any other preferences?

I prefer to be in a college town with a large urban area close to the university.

When you say that your family has a lot saved for college, does that mean that they have $200,000 saved?
