Hello, I’m currently just a sophomore in HS and was needing some tips on what I could improve on so that I could have a better shot at top schools such as the Ivy League and Stanford etc or some top public schools such as UNC when applying as a senior. Some background about me:
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 4.0
Weighted GPA: 4.375
AP:(I’m currently only taking AP Bio and AP Gov)
Extracurriculars: They’re what I need most help on, I’m currently treasurer of HOSA but I’m hoping to get a better position later, I’m on leadership team of a culture and international club, and I’m currently gonna run for either VP or secretary of the science club but me being elected is unlikely since I’m an introvert and not popular or anything. These clubs I’m just currently just a member in but I’m hoping for a office in them: National Beta Club, Student Ambassadors, Interact Club, Student Council, and another volunteering club. I also participate in the swimming team.
Volunteer/Community service: Volunteered about 80 hours each at my local hospital and local hospice over my freshmen summer.
State: NC
School Type: Rural high school in a rural area with not as many AP’s as would a city HS.
Ethnicity: Hispanic/Latino (Guatemalan)
Gender:M
Income Bracket:(<35,000)
Hooks:URM, First Gen, Low Income, from a rural underrepresented high school and area in NC. I mostly need tips or ideas on extracurriculars since my school does not offer many opportunities nor does my town and it’s extremely difficult to do any EC’s as someone from a city would have access to. I’m really interested in medical stuff and hope to go to the medical field and I really hope to demonstrate this to the schools by my extracurriculars, other passions of mine include paying soccer and swimming if all turns well during swim season. (I could not join the soccer team this year) Any ideas or tips would be appreciated.
