What are some top colleges with good financial aid/scholarships?

Besides the Ivies, what are some comparable or lower level universities that are also quite generous overall in terms of financial help? I'd say NYU, Georgetown, Tufts, etc. level (speaking of which, are those 3 known for good aid? Sorry, a bit ignorant on this...). Liberal arts colleges too

Thanks in advance! :)

NYU is not very good for aid, but from my understanding, they are beginning to change their financial aid policy so it can be slightly more generous, but it's overall very bad.

Also good; Amherst, Williams, Middlebury, Carleton, Pomona, Emory (for low income students), Stanford, Northwestern....... that's a start.

Look for schools that meet 100% of need and that limit (or have eliminated) loans in their FA packages. With these schools you also get some certainty beyond the first year, which is extremely important, especially if a sibling will be entering college in a year or two. There are already some lists of these schools on CC, but I can't provide a link.

thanks!! :)

Money & Business: Schools That Say They Meet Full Need - US News and World Report

Dated, but still a good place to start.

thanks, I should edit my original post to indicate: preferably Northeastern. few other preferences though...

Many of the womens and formerly womens colleges give excellent financial aid; Barnard, Bryn Marw, Smith, Mount Holyoke, Wellsley, Vassar all meet 100% demonstrated need

So how are Tufts, Georgetown, and JHU? thanks! :)

Use the collegboard.com school finder. It will tell you what percentage of need is met and how it is met (what % is loans vs. grants).

oh wow, did not know that existed. ignorant
