Temple would be a good safety: you’d almost certainly receive a handsome merit package, and Philly is a very gay-friendly city. Eugene Lang College at the New School, in NYC, is another possibility. You’d have an excellent shot at admission. Barnard sounds ideal. If you’re willing to travel a little further, look at New College of FL. A liberal arts college in an urban, or close-in suburban, location, is the perfect LGBTQ setting: the campus will be tolerant, but you’ll have social and cultural opportunities in the outside community.
I always heard that female colleges are comfortable places for gay women in that there are many who are open about their sexuality and you won’t be in the minority.
Oops. I just read that you might not want a woman’s college. With your stats consider schools like Vassar, Sarah Lawrence, Wesleyan and Yale. All would probably have a good sized gay population. GL
Ugh, I’m in the same situation with my dad. It’s terrible!
I wouldn’t recommend NYU, since direct expenses are over $65,000. Providence College is also expensive, I applied there.
