I am an African American 8th grader, and I go to a Catholic private school. I have all A’s and B’s right now. My SSAT scores were really good for the most part as I scored a 2202 out of 2400, getting 91st percentile overall. My interview was stellar, and my interviewer thought I would be a perfect fit at Phillips Exeter Academy. I have strong extracurriculars. I have been on my school’s track and field team for 3 years now, I am a Student Ambassador, Safety Patrol, was in Student Council in 6th grade, have been in Chorus for 5 years now, have been in Theater for 2 years, have done Science Olympiad for 2 years now, am an Altar Server, I am in Tech Crew at my school, I did volleyball at my school for 2 years, and have done lots of community service. I have played the piano ever since I was in 2nd grade, and know how to play guitar. I have been in advanced mathematics for as long as it has been offered. My essays for Phillips Exeter were really good, t
Sounds like you have excellent extracurriculars and lots of them. Your grades seem low for Exeter ( B’s, hmmm) . SSAT scores also. I think being an underrepresented minority will help a lot. I would guess that your chances are about 50/50. If you had all A’s and SSAT’s in high 90’s I would then say 60/40. It’s a tough place to get into. Catholic school might help you as there are fewer from Catholic school. It will help a lot if you live outside New England ( regional representation). It will also matter if you are first gen to attend college and/or are full pay. Also, if your track and field scores are good that will help. I think they aren’t so much looking for athletes ( as everyone plays) but who can be an impact athlete. I think most interviews are good because kids are all stellar and accomplished who apply. Best of luck to you.
Thank you for your advice and well wishes
