<p>But I think that this is an important discussion for this reason. Last week, I saw a CC thread by a HS senior asking if s/he should consider paying dozens of thousands of extra dollars to choose the U. of Georgia over the U. of South Carolina because of UGA’s greater “prestige.” If 18-year-olds are being deluded enough by CC posts to consider such an action, then I think we need to make the point that “prestige” is an exceptionally rare commodity with limited benefits, and it isn’t a byproduct of just being several spots higher on the US News rankings.</p>
