What are the most advantageous colleges to apply Early Decision too?

Which highly selective colleges provide the greatest advantage in admission to applicants who apply Early Decision? For example, Duke’s overall admit rate is around 10%; ED is around 25%. Dartmouth is about the same.

Are you asking b/c you’re curious about the numbers? Or is this a search filtering strategy?

If the latter, then it’s a terrible idea. It’s akin to asking a roomful of single people who would be most likely to agree to marry you. And then your going over to that person to strike up a conversation. ED is for the single most likely school you’d attend, bar none. If you don’t have one – that’s OK too.

Probably schools which consider “level of applicant’s interest” to be “very important”, since they may otherwise reject an applicant (particularly an “overqualified” one) who does not “show interest”. Applying ED is the strongest possible expression of interest in a college.

If you’re not a qualified applicant, then ED at selective schools will not help you at all.

The admissions rates are higher, but the early applicant pool is much stronger with athletes (especially at Duke) and legacies applying as well.

If I had to guess, WUSTL and Tufts would be high on my list as they value yield a lot (They wait list a lot of highly qualified applicants who they think are going to the Ivies instead, it’s called Tufts syndrome). This is just a myth btw.

Just apply if u want, since they are all top-tier schools, it doesn’t matter whether to apply ED this school or the other

Which one is the most advantageous? The one you really, really want to attend and can afford.

You’re really only supposed to apply early decision because it’s your die-hard #1 choice dream school.
