No safety schools?

^ Exactly!

Hey Rahman I was in the same kind of situation as you in my senior year in high school. Everyone expected me to get in somewhere, I was at the top of my class, but I asked for financial aid and that was when the recession started. I also aimed too high with no safeties. Ended up getting rejected and waitlisted for all of my schools.

There are certain colleges with rolling admissions that’ll probably take you.

I’m not so sure about financial aid, but since you’re so well qualified, chances are there are some colleges that will offer you some (maybe not enough) even if you don’t ask for it on your application. I was surprised that many of my international friends got financial aid packets from about 20k to 30k per year, and they were not as well qualified as you seem. If you don’t get in this time you can wait a term and apply again, re-thinking your college list, while doing something productive like travel, work, or volunteer stuff.

Another thing you can do is to write a letter to the dean of admissions for the schools you got waitlisted in. It might seem like an absurd thing to do, but it actually paid off for me and I got placed on a special waitlist through the summer for one of my schools. They also remembered me when I applied for transfer. Just say how much you’d like the opportunity to finally step out of your country.

Good luck!

I must thank you people again for your invaluable advice and support. I am a Bangladeshi (Indian Sub-continent) in response to anaconda320’s question. So are we in the consensus that I should apply next year to one of the good state universities and earn a scholarship package (I will apply super early and try to swing $20k)? Do universities such as Emory and Rice offer scholarships?

No we are not of that consensus.

Stay on the waitlist and then follow my advice above NOW for THIS year. Those are the best options close to your budget.

One more you might consider is New Mexico School of Mining and Technology. It’s also very inexpensive.

Why should you lose a whole year if you don’t have to.

There is also a list of schools that still have openings that comes out around the 1st week of May. There may be opportunities that have financial aid, though as an international, it might be difficult to get. There are often some surprisingly good schools on that list, though I don’t know how many are going to give you $40K/yr.

I guess that’s because of your FA. But really glorious scores indeed

were you able to interview with alumni/representatives from any of them?

Schools can sometimes consider interviews to be useless, but other colleges like Reed see them as very important. Along with your essay, they are what can make you stand out in a crowd.

Also, what sort of community service were you doing? I was accepted into Hamilton, and in my letter they specifically mentioned my community service (I was a spanish translator in an underfunded hospital where the patients speak spanish and the employees rarely do).

Well interviews were not possible for people in my country. I think community service was one of my strongest suits. I teach English and Mathematics to a group of under-privileged children of my society. And I have been doing so for the last two years. Apart from that, I was also part of the team that led the cleaning drive in one of the busiest cities of South-east Asia.

You would have stood a better chance at higher Ivies. AKA Harvard. Because you’re a you’re an international who needs.

Space Available list is up

UT Dallas has space. I don’t know what kind of aid they give internationals, but many internationals go there. Maybe they’ll give you something for your high SAT score?

Visited Carleton this spring with my D and in the admissions talk they said that they are mainly need aware for Intl. students. That is because they have very few scholarships for Intls, so except for a few of the tippy top applicants, most are full pay.
