haha, nice one!

Bill0510: Great article. Thanks for sharing.

The following part of the article tickled my warped sense of humor:

"Before Induction Day, all the paper was removed from the sneakers and they were pre-laced."

Pre-laced sneakers !!! Talk about taking the stress out of plebe summer.

Will open-healed, slip-on combat boots be next ??

Well. . . I've been told that those boat shoes are really tough on the feet. In fact, we had to go to the Bass store to get a pair in advance to break them in. Of course, my son never could figure out how to polish them to a high gloss.

This has been about the most fun (other than the congratulations) that I've had on cc since I joined. You guys are hysterical!

All I can add is that our poor West Point new cadets are so lucky not to have air conditioning since they are all getting colds. That hot, muggy air is so good for them now. Then again the gas in the next week or so should help those sinus passages clear out quite a bit.

Thanks to all of your Plebes and I am passing along much perservearance and best of luck in making the end of the trials!! Thanks to all who are serving so that the rest of us can LIVE FREE.....I am humbled by your commitment.

HERE HERE! I second that Hazmat! All of the academies have the best of the best this country has. I will sleep soundly tonight. I may have nightmares about that gas bit that WP does though. Thats why my son listened to his dear Mama & said GO NAVY BEAT ARMY even though he's at USMMA! ;) The poor kids with colds have every ounce of my sympathy. You know what a drag your regular day is when you don't feel well? I can't imagine being yelled at while my nose is running! Hope you all are seeing photos of your kids and they are well!

One thing that USMA has over USNA...... My USNA Plebe daughter would trade every care package and picnic if she didn't have to cut her hair!!!! :)
NAPS05mom
Tricia

Hair must get in the way of seeing the controls on the big-screen tv in their rooms at USNA.

just kidding!

HAHAHAHA I have the biggest stitch in my side from laughing! oib1 you just kill me! HA! I'm not kidding. I absolutley hee-hawed at that one!

To be sure naps05mom. I have seen some of the girls from our website photos and my heart went out to them. It looked as if the barber pulled a pony-tail to the top of their heads then sheared it off. No layers of anything. The poor things then pull whats left back into a couple of barretts. Good thing it grows back! As far as the boys go, my older son said his brother looks like Mr. Potato Head. Brothers! Oh the horror stories I could tell! I've told my son to open any mail he receives from his brother very carefully. Could be booby-trapped! Speaking of which... How are the siblings getting along now that they are minus one in the rank/s?

Actually, the USNA women plebes generally choose to have a blunt cut instead of a layered cut because they are allowed to grow the hair back out after plebe summer but will always be required to keep it neatly pulled back (off the face and in a tight french braid or bun.) A short layered cut is extremely hard to keep pulled back and still neat as it grows out.

In fact, from what I saw on I-Day, nearly all the women had their hair cut before arriving and most had the identical blunt cut, so what you're seeing in the pictures isn't the work of Navy barbers!

Well in my case, my sister who is at USNA, is my twin. And my only sibling. It is REALLY hard for me now that she's gone away (seeing as how we used to everything together). I'm very lonely, my house is empty, and I can't wait for PPW. Luckily i'm going to college in D.C. ;)

Its an interesting question about the siblings: my boys think what their sister is doing is "really cool", my other girl is questioning the value of her contribution to society in comparison with what her sister has chosen!

oiixxg, i think i'm having the same problem...

Well, my daughter did get some layers, but it was also basically a layered bob. Very cute actually. :) Of course, she was soooo worried that it had grown over vacation and they were going to cut more off like they did at NAPS. I had read that the plebe women have to have their hair short all year. Is that something they changed? Hope so.

oib1: Cracked up at your comment on the TVs. Too funny. THis thread is a hoot. It sure beats the worrying I am doing otherwise. :)
NAPS05mom

Here's one thing that should worry you Navy people - I heard last weekend, when I was at West Point, that Army has a 370 pound lineman - and he's fast. I just wish they had ten more.

Jamzmom. Did I read this correctly that "Plebe Summer" for USMMA is only 17 days? [Of course, I use the term Plebe Summer generously; sounds more like Plebe two weeks!]

oib1 - Found out that the press release on the 370 pound lineman had a typo.

Article was suppose to say "Army has three, seventy pound linemen who fast."

Seriously, Army has beefed up its recruiting. 77 recruited athletes for the footman team alone. Coach Ross and his staff have been busy.

Army football is ready for some long, overdue payback.

oib1,
Did you mean Army has a 370 pound lineman and he's FAT? I saw the dude and he is FAT! AND, those corpulent Army football players are probably really suffering in those barracks without AIR CONDITIONING!

Bobby's got a hot line straight to Pete Carrol's office at USC. Watch out for the Matt Leinart/Reggie Bush clones!!!

twofme,

My WP daughter's twin who is still home for another month is definitely missing her sister. As the younger brother is backpacking for 8 weeks in the Pacific Northwest (what a life!) she's finally an only child - and she realizes that it's not what it's cracked up to be. The house is quiet and her sister really is her best friend. To return to the original topic of this thread, she sent her sister spoilers from all of her favorite tv shows (Alias and Lost). I thought that was a great idea and it related to one of their favorite activities.

For what it's worth, coincidentally we met quite a few parents who have a child going to a service academy and the twin going to a civilian college. Best of luck to you. It warms my heart to see the support you have for your sister.
