Yes, but certainly not as good as Cornell. bseo927, please don't instigate any sort of Cornell vs. Ivies ****ing contest.

bseo927,
Am engineer witha good GPS from Cornell is in real high demand (more than from Princeton or any other top-notch institute) because of strong academic programmes. But what really counts nowadays in recruiting is what sort of exposure uve had, on an industrila and research front. And Cornell's miles...freaking miles, ahead of any other Ivy or other instution because it gives so many more opps to its undergraduates,

gellino, yes...Princeton's is better than most other Ivies. But, Cornell's Eng courses are better and its engineering research better. When u see the federal allocation of funds for research, Princeton gets only some 140million while Cornell uses 381million...

Just like the NYT article said this past weekend, people have too much of an unnecessary inferiority complex about Cornell and are way too concerned that it's an Ivy League Ivy-reject school. Just enjoy that it's a good school with a beautiful campus that is potentially pretty fun with great people and leave it at that. The vast majority of people there (who aren't on these boards) aren't nearly so concerned with this type of thing. I know when I was applying to Cornell, I was only interested in two of the other seven Ivys and wasn't concerned whether or not it was an Ivy League reject school.

How many people go to top 20 medical school from Cornell? Is it possible to find this stat out?

Cornell does something to improve its underestimated reputation
[/quote]

A very naive statement to make because Cornell's reputation is firmly established as a top-notch research intitution ands recruiters do know this and respect a Cornell degree highly.

bseo - i'm not sure about the exact stat. Try exploring the website: career.cornell.edu and you can explore med school stuff. Cornell's placement into med schools in general is among the best in the US.

Dont worry about Cornell's relation to the other ivy schools. Sure, there are many out in the general population who only consider HYP to be 'true' ivies. But, the ones that we should care about recognizing Cornell's name/presence/rigor/prestige etc. already know this (these people being grad schools and employers).

Don't forget about Cornell's food. :D Excellence.

Two things:

"How many people go to top 20 medical school from Cornell? Is it possible to find this stat out?"

This REALLY bothers me sometimes. Do you want to treat people or wear your diploma taped to your forehead? I wish some premed hopefuls would grow up. Med school is med school. That being said, I think I read somewhere that there have been several Cornell alumni who have gone on to be valedictorians at Harvard Med School.

Secondly, OK, so what if very few turn down HYP for Cornell? Some certainly have, but why single Cornell out? How often do people turn down HYP for ANY school? I'm proud to be going to a school that at least has some programs that would lure people away from HYP (like the standout engineering program and the biology department). It's inflammatory to call Cornell the safety IVY to HYP. All the ivies are safety ivies to HYP. Is Cornell the safety IVY in general? No. There's no such thing. The schools are too different and the competition is always fierce. I'm yet to meet one person who got into, say Cornell/Dartmouth or Cornell/Columbia or Cornell/Brown or Cornell/Penn, who was sure without a doubt that they would not attend Cornell in favor of the other school. Cornell holds its own VERY well against the other ivies--not so well against HYP, but then, none of the others do either.

bseo, here is a link that will at least give you a cross section of applicants to many different schools, but would agree with bongoboy, in general, about your underlying priorities in wanting to go to med school.

is it easy to transfer from cornell to Haravard, yale or princeton, or Upenn? or is the same if i go to a state school?

as far as i know...i don't think Princeton accepts transfers...i remeber reading something like that...but i'm not sure.
And yes, it is easier to transfer to Harvard, Yale from Cornell than a state school, but i fail to see why you would want to do that

very productive convo, getting back to the objective of this post??

so far, it doesn't look so impressive what kids are turnin down for cornell, seems like abunch of UCs

Duke, UMichigan, UVa, JHU, UC Berkeley, Middlebury, Carleton (all top-tier schools)... I only counted about 4 UC's... I suppose it was a meaningful contribution to the discussion though, bball87...

You never answered my question on page 2.

I turned down Cambridge,UK and University of Chicago which I applied EA to, just in case Cornell decided not to accept me ED.

Looks like some kids are turning down Duke and JHU, both impressive schools. But obviously not as impressive as Cornell. ;)

bongo, i dont see ur question>

How did teachers respond to your requests for recommendations? Was it awkward? Were they reluctant? Isn't it sort of not an easy thing to ask since you want to transfer out? What teachers did you ask and how long had you known them and what were your experiences with them?

"Really? I have never heard of anyone who has turned down HYP to go to Cornell"

I turned down both Princeton and Yale for Cornell...waitlist Harvard and didn't "wait." Then went there for law school. Many people turn down lots of other Ivies, esp. in sciences, in which Cornell clearly superior. Again, the Ivy safety rep is based on contract schools and Hotel, all of which are a bit easier to get into; Arts and Sciences as difficult for admissions as most other Ivies and Engineering is a better program/school than all other Ivies.

what is it with you against the contract colleges? What did they ever do to you?

um....it was VERY ackward, i was very honest w. them
