Yup, but businesses are still able to set their requirements, including requiring proof of VAX and/or negative test. Our state Capitol will require those for entry onto reopening Capitol grounds.
Anyone travel to Amsterdam recently or planning to? Thinking of going in April…
I have a business trip to Amsterdam coming up. It was planned for next week, but is now being moved to April. The reason for postponement was not Covid but the other side is not ready with the needed docs.
I’m worried about my daughter’s trip to Germany this May. She was supposed to go to Poland too but I bet that part will be cancelled. The cities that are farther east may also be off the itinerary.
I am doing a Rhine river cruise and will be in Amsterdam at the beginning of April during flower season. I am looking forward to visiting Keukenhof Botanical Gardens and museums.
@JazzyTXMom - us too! We were supposed to go two years ago in April. Had to cancel that thanks to the pandemic. Looking forward to it this year - keeping fingers crossed that nothing will come in the way of this trip!
Tickets for the gardens are on sale now and they are claiming limited availability. Same goes for Anne Frank house.
Has anyone here taken a day trip out from Amsterdam? We’d like to do one - debating about Kinderdijk or Volendam/Marken. We won’t have a car, but can rent one for the day if needed.
What about a day trip by train to Brugge?
@arisamp We are staying two additional nights in Amsterdam post-cruise. We have tickets for Anne Frank House, Keukenhof, Van Gogh Museum, and Rijksmuseum. It is going to be a bit of a whirlwind tour but it is what it is.
We had a morning walking tour with our Viking host (we did a pre-tour with them), followed by lunch and a visit to the Rijksmuseum and walked around Museumplein. Late afternoon we took a canal cruise, boarded not far from the Rijks, within sight of the Heineken tour. Best thing we did!!! It gave us an 60-90 minute break from walking around, rested our legs and re-charged our batteries. We went to a rijstafel (rice table) for dinner. If you’re not familiar, look it up—it harkens back to Amsterdam’s golden days as a world sea power (Indonesian cuisine).
Sounds like a great visit. I am hoping to be able to do a canal cruise as well.
Are you sure you just looked at the Heineken tour? No ‘short tour’ to the tasting room?
Holding onto our refundable tickets to Europe in May for now, hoping the ground war doesnt spread. And praying for peace
NO–we did not take the Heineken tour–just mentioned the building as a landmark to indicate where we boarded the canal cruise. You can’t miss the old brewery building that no longer functions in that capacity, but rather is a ‘Heineken experience’ type of place.
Not a great picture but gives you an idea of the size of the building—can’t miss it.
Just thought a couple of beers might have helped you get that relaxing feeling.
H and I have had a great 2 1\2 weeks on our ski road trip. Most of our skiing has been in Colorado and this year has been pretty much back to normal. Most places we have been did not require masks. We ate most of our dinners out this year versus last year eating takeout in hotel rooms. It was nice to sit at a bar and have drinks with the locals again. The only place we were asked for our vaccination cards was in Crested Butte when we went into the lodge to get lunch while skiing.
Oh, OK, now I get what you’re saying!!!
No need for beer—just the “cloud” you’re exposed to walking past the “coffeeshops” was enough!
BTW, if you want to drink coffee ,find a “coffee shop”, if you want something more “herbal” look for a “coffeeshop”.
Many conversations with D1 who was livid yesterday on her business trip when her flight Santa Rosa-Phoenix was delayed for 2-3 hours causing her team to miss their connection in Phoenix. Happens of course! There were no additional flights heading to the Midwest in the evening so they have to fly out today.
What she was livid over was the poor communication and lack of assistance from the AA staff in the airport. In Phoenix they got put up at a Comfort Inn and were handed a $12 food voucher - she looked at the AA person and said, “I’m suppose to buy dinner, breakfast and lunch with $12?” The lady said “I don’t disagree but this is all we can offer you”.
Any possibility of making a claim on trip delay coverage from the credit card that was used to purchase the ticket? We got stuck overnight in Philly last November on an AA connection. We got nothing from AA but submitted our hotel bill and meal charges to our credit card insurance and got reimbursed. It was a minor hassle to collect and submit the receipts but we were successful.
Since it’s a trip through her employer (paid with their credit cards) I guess they will hash that out!
She wasn’t out any money herself - just lots of inconvenience and of course lost a good part of her weekend , but she was just appalled at how it was handled and was not customer friendly
Sometimes I think we make flight reservations based on times and $, not carrier - and then hope for the best that there aren’t roadblocks!
When I was making daughter’s reservations to Europe, I found the flights on Expedia and was going to book through them for $1 less, but would have gotten a Rakuten rebate of $35 or so. Daughter pointed out that it was a lot harder to get refunds through a 3rd party booker and it was like a light bulb went off. Right. It was also a shared route so could have booked United or Luftanza. We went with United figuring if flight is cancelled and credited, United is easier for her to use and she’s flying back from London so again, United may pair with another carrier out of there.
I did buy the travel insurance so hopefully she’ll get reimbursed for delays.
