What are your thoughts about travel in the time of Covid?

Ok, I just went on their site by myself - not through the email that arrived and filled out a “Contact Us” form. I’ll update to let folks know how it goes when/if I hear back. Until then, if anyone has any experience with this happening - would love to know!

Why couldn’t they just credit it back to your original method of payment?

That’s what I asked them to do in the Contact Us form. @JustaMom and I were thinking similarly with a “No Way in the World” am I putting bank account info into any link from an email, even if the situation applies.

Filling that form out just tells me they can’t find the reservation any longer - hopefully due to their changing it to a voucher back in 2020. Thanks for the link though.

Searching their site for Voucher Refund comes up with nothing too.

ETA I received an auto-response to my Contact Us form, so I’ll see (and report) what happens, but it might take a few days. :crossed_fingers:

I’m about to pull the trigger on flights to France. Problem is, D is looking for jobs and also trying to find grad school opportunities. She may not be able to come. Between that and Covid, what’s the best way for us to purchase the tickets? I don’t necessarily need a refund; credit is fine. What are current policies? Does Amx still offer travel insurance? Please advise how best to book these. Thank you!

Near all tickets, except the cheapest in basic economy, are cancellable (either full refund or flight credit good for 1-3 years is issued, depending on fare class). Unlike domestic flights, international flights usually cost less (often significantly less) if you book roundtrip. If you book cancellable flights, travel insurance offers few additional benefits. What additional benefits credit cards offer are highly dependent on the particular card (and you need to look into each one you have to see what they are, because they differ so much even if they are issued by the same bank).

My son (finally) picked the Koloa Landing over the Sheraton in Poipu and others for their stay in Kauai. I think the award-winning pool helped with the decision.
Thanks for the recommendations.

Im at the atlanta airport waiting for my D. In the waiting area for arrivals about 25 percent of people waiting for others are maskless .

Hmm just saw 2 people come up the escalators maskless as well.

Btw almost all male.

I guess noone cares anymore unless you are past security or on a plane?

Came back from a quick trip to sunny CA. At SeaTac, mask wearing got a solid A-. Other than a very large maskless group of Eastern European-looking folks (Russians? Ukrainians? Belarusians? Poles? Not sure, I stirred clear of them) at the baggage claim, everyone wore masks. Ditto San Jose - mask wearing was just as good as it was a year ago.

I’ve flown to SJC several times in the last year and it seems to me that Californians follow masking guidelines very well.

My understanding is that unless extended again…the mask mandate for planes and airports will be dropped APRIL 18.

We went to Phoenix. Mask compliance in that airport was very good. Can’t say the same for Bradley where probably 25% were massless. Denver was ok…and so was Dulles.

On our flights both ways…folks wore masks, but for the long leg of the trip…folks were eating.

We are planning a road trip for the fall with my parents to ride the narrow gauge railroad in Durango,Colorado into mountains. We will be driving from Southern California. H and my dad are big train fans. Any suggestions for the best time to go in September or October to also see fall colors is appreciated. It will probably be a 10 day trip so we are trying to decide where else to go along the way. My mom is great with walking, but my dad has back issues so we need to take this into consideration. My parents are very excited to travel with us again as we all get along well.

Figures they’re dropping it on April 18. I fly back from Texas on April 17.

Usually the first week of October is best for the Aspen leaf viewing, but it can be really good at any time from Sept 15 to Oct 15.

I apologize if I sound like a broken record, but NOTHING would make me happier than if the US on April 18th also dropped the COVID test requirement for returning travelers. Vaccinated and boostered people should be allowed back in—test the unvaxxed people if they want to!

We have trips to Canada and Scotland planned for this year. Both countries may be entered without a COVID test, but vaccinations required.

I’ve just returned from 2 weeks in England. Flights there and back were not full and mask compliance on the planes and in airports was pretty good. Outside the airport and on public transport in England almost no one wore a mask and there was no social distancing to speak of. Since the government relaxed the rules it seemed the attitude was everything’s back to pre-covid normal.

On day 5 the friend I was staying with heard from a friend (all 3x vaxxed) that they’d tested + for c-19. We’d been taking LFT’s daily which were negative but a PCR came back positive for my host the next morning at which point I changed my plans and left.

I wore KF 94 mask in taxis and on trains and buses and in public area of hotels, but was generally the only person doing so. Tested every day with rapid tests (incidentally, the local chemists shop gave me a pack, no charge) and was consistently negative but moderately worried. In the area in which I was staying at that point number of positive cases was 1 in 30 which seemed high to me. It felt pretty safe though as long as I avoided crowds and was well masked around others inside. I could be flexible and change plans if the immediate situation was too crowded for comfort.

During the last weekend in London I was concerned about the test needed to return to the US. In the end it went smoothly but required planning and organization to schedule in person since I was having problems with my phone. I was pronounced “fit to fly” and had to show documentation of this at check-in. Mask compliance at Heathrow was not very good but it’s possible the rules were changed and masks not required.

Since my return I’ve heard numbers of positive cases are now 1 in 16 in London (in my age group) - probably very much associated with the “back to normal” attitude.
Overall I feel very lucky to have avoided illness while there and while I don’t love wearing masks it seems a very small price to pay to stay well AND be able to see friends and family.
Back home I remain cautious and concerned that cases of covid are rising again.

Unvaxxed can enter Scotland but must have a negative test to do so.
