I am flying them on Thursday. I am still not sure what I am going to do. I may hybrid it.
I was thinking this morning because I have a flight in later May…what would I do (where would I stay? Would I try to rent a car and drive home?) if I contracted Covid on my 6 day trip and it was active when I was scheduled to depart back home?
Which made me think…will more people just fly home anyway - unmasked - if they contract COVID on their trip - and therefore expose more people in the airport/plane? Because, you know, “out of sight out of mind” for some people in regards to protecting others, spreading of disease, etc. ???
NO WAY will I be in the airport or fly without my high grade mask.
I have been on Public Transportation, and yes they mandate masks, but so many people were never wearing them properly, not covering their noses . How much that was helping, who knows.
My mom is traveling today and she will wear a KN95. I think that having those readily available for those who want to wear masks is very different then in the beginning before vaccines and when they more protective masks were available to the public.
Delta’s communication to staff:
“We are relieved to see the U.S. mask mandate lift to facilitate global travel as COVID-19 transitions to a more manageable respiratory virus – with better treatments, vaccines and other scientific measures to prevent serious illness.”
If the court decision is allowed to stand, it will prevent any future federal mask mandates at the airports and beyond - even if a new, more deadly variant emerges. The Cliff Notes of that multi-page opinion is that masks clean nothing. Shaking my head.
One might have thought that an appeal of such a forseeable judicial decision would be pre-written and prepared to file. Given the public celebration of the mask mandate revocation, it appears it will never return.
I can see why airlines are relived to drop mask mandates. With so many mask related incidents it added burden on their stuff .
D is flying on Saturday with her toddler who is unvaccinated. She is not going to be happy if people around her on the flight are unmasked.
I flew last week. Wearing the mask even for the 4 hour flight was not that bad.
I saw Atul Gawande’s tweet. He was on Jet Blue when they announced the end of the mask mandate. 50% of the passengers cheered and removed the masks. He calculated that on any given flight from Boston, given Boston’s positivity rate, one passenger was Covid positive.
Perhaps your daughter should reconsider her travel plans. Many on the flight will be unmasked, though of course she and her family can choose to mask.
Driving is not an option and the trip is related to moving cross country. She will wear an N95 as will her husband.
That’s an interesting marketing strategy. Depending on the audience and location, Lyft could see a big increase in business.
Lyft also stopped its mask rule
Well, no Lyft or Uber for us. Glad we used up the gift cards when we could. I’m keeping my expensive car rental for this trip.
must have been just now…it was reported earlier that Lyft was keeping their mask mandate- editing to add- just saw it reported!
I like natural oxygen. I find it has a sweet but tangy flavor to it
RE: Lyft and Uber. Seems that wearing your own well fitted N95 mask plus opening each of the back windows a bit - for ventilation would make it a pretty darn safe environment. You could even ask the driver if they’d cracked one of the front windows a bit.
Many drivers refuse to crack open the windows, unfortunately. One driver forcefully closed back windows when we opened them and complained of open windows affecting fuel efficiency. With gas prices going through the roof, I expect more of this sort of nonsense.
Well, they have a point. Perhaps if you offered some additional cash to offset the higher fuel price…
The effect on fuel consumption is minimal. The effect on customer… a turn off.
There is always that “tip” window at the checkout. We tip very well… but that request was ridiculous - in November of 2020.
We can certainly disagree. Uber drivers are not often affluent, and I would expect them to be keenly aware of fuel consumption. If you want a special service, like open windows when not required, I would expect to pay for it.
