I don’t think of opening a back window half an inch in a car with no AC as a “special service.”
If you are a visual learner or someone that just appreciates excellent graphics this is a good lay person’s guide to what happens on the plane with the air, simulates what happens if someone sneezes, etc.
We flew out of O’Hare today and I’d say masking was 50/50. We grabbed a Lyft ( which was 50% cheaper than Uber) and masks required- yay! And, the driver did not care that I rolled down the windows . Can only control my own actions at this point but this really does throw a wrench in future travel plans we have.
Just waiting to see all the upcoming canceled flights as airlines have to deal with staff calling in sick. At least that happened with British Airlines and EasyJet when they dropped masking on flights; not sure why the US would be any different.
While waiting to see what the next week brings with outbreaks etc., I came up with a five point plan for son to consider.
(1) change my flight up to first class, and pick a seat in the front row. Less congregating to board and of course many fewer people around me. And hope flight doesn’t get cancelled! It’s only money…
(2) wear my new 3M N95 mask - picked up several more at CVS today and it really seals perfectly on my face. I’m not sure how comfortable it will be for a few hours but I can deal with it.
(3) do a home antigen test before flying and each day of my visit.
(4) cancel any indoor plans until my trip, which really just means no color touch up. He will have to deal with my grey roots.
(5) second booster - had it today.
Perhaps, but a much higher percentage of the US population already had covid compared to those in the UK or continental Europe.
I think your plan sounds very considered and doable. I hope your son agrees.
Looks like a reasonable plan. Pick a window seat in first class, mask up well, wash your hands frequently. Hope the weather will be nice so many more places will have outdoor dining open.
@Marilyn maybe your stylist can put the color on the roots and you process and wash out at home.
Son may be ok with salon visit; he’s most concerned with flight. But I don’t need to make the decision yet.
It appears that DoJ will appeal the decision.
Maybe, maybe not. Depends on the CDC. and it doesn’t sound like anything is happening soon.
I think the front row will be safest, but don’t board first. Try to board last to avoid the passenger log jams.
Seat 1A going up to Seattle. I assume first class will board first so there shouldn’t be a log jam, as opposed to staying at the gate where everyone else is crowding together. The sooner I get out of that, the better!
If I make it up there and son kicks me out, I will reach out to @BunsenBurner .
Try the 3M Aura masks - they are supremely comfortable.
(And I was just in Seattle a few days ago and had a great outdoor lunch at Ba Bar on Capitol hill. On the patio, inferred heaters above!)
In a truly bizarre move, DoJ announced it would appeal the decision if CDC wants to do so, but not ask for a stay. So we are all maskless until the case is heard, probably around August. The whole issue likely is moot by then.
Median case time from notice of appeal to decision in the 11th circuit is a speedy 9.7 months.
The 3M Aura is what I picked up for free at CVS - they have full bins at the front and by the pharmacy. So I grabbed a handful each time I passed the bins while getting my booster today. It fits me beautifully. I mailed a few to son so he can judge for himself, although my face is much smaller than his.
Chicago airports and transit are now mask-optional.
IL Gov. Pritzker amended the state’s public transit mask mandate to conform to the federal ruling. While local municipalities have the right to set their own mitigations, the Chicago Dept. of Aviation has lifted the mandate at O’Hare and Midway and the Chicago Transit Authority will no longer require masks on their busses or L trains. Metra has also lifted the mandate on its commuter trains.
I am flying with my mom to. 3m masks are coming out. I was hoping we could make it to mask required window.
I just looked at my upcoming flight in June. It’s less than 1/3 full now. I swear more seats were occupied last time I checked. Have some passengers already cancelled their flights?
