The South Fork on the American River - we’ve chosen their “glamping” option for 2 nights and 3 days.
I did a river raft trip on the Papagayo in Mexico that was so much fun. Doing this trip with my D has been on our list for years -

Husband and kids have done Grand Canyon–H and D twice and son once. Loved it!
I opted out. I heard a comedian while I was trying to decide. Hilarious rendition of going down the river. Her take–if you’re under 30 then go no questions asked. If you’re 40 and adventurous then go. If you’re 50 and fit–maybe. If you’re a 60ish woman who likes AC and private bathrooms–maybe not…
Too funny @gouf78 , we went rafting near Reno and we liked it(H was 69). We will try rafting in Canada again. No desire for the Grand Canyon yet.
We are returning from France on Sunday. Also interested in hearing if there are a lot of delays/cancellations. Crossing our fingers.
I put AirTag in my luggage and I was able to track it as it was moving, included when they loaded it to luggage claim. People told me they have put it on their pets.
I am in Italy. Masks still required for public transportations, but not for other indoor venues.
On my flight over, the person next to me had his mask on the whole time, but most people were madkkess.
Think all you can do is cross fingers. Son did make it home today at 3 am this morning.
His initial itinerary was cancelled even though he was at airport 4 hours early at CDG. Just sort of vanished. Got on a plane finally to Boston–after terminal switch and another security line with an hour to get there. He would have missed that but that plane was delayed. Got to Boston and then made it to Atlanta–because all planes delayed. After standing in two lines and looking to spend the night in Atlanta he realized his ORIGINAL scheduled plane (delayed hours) to home was leaving in an hour–he hightailed it out of line and they let him on.
So…based on our recent experiences expect delays.
I just heard on the news that the east coast is due severe storms tomorrow which could make for even MORE problems.
They said that Delta was so desperate for available seats on a flight that they offered 8 passengers $10k!!!
I just looked up the flight we’re planning on taking on August 4 on FlightAware.com, and it’s been canceled three times in the last two weeks. Ugh. It makes me sad that I dread flying now. I used to enjoy it.
I looked up my flights from British Airways, it was cancel many weeks before my flight, so I did a preemptive strike, I changed my flight, in the end, it didn’t cancel my flight at all.
Hope that happens on my way back from Europe. I’ll stay longer. 10K is a lot.
For our trip to Scotland in September, we have a 2.5 hr layover going out, and a 3.5 hr layover coming home. When booked I looked at long layovers as a negative, but with so many flights leaving and arriving late, now I consider them to be a plus! The bigger the cushion the better.
I’ve not heard of AirTags but I’m going to look into getting them. @oldfort hope you’ll share about your Italy trip when you get back. I’m in the thick of planning an Oct trip to Italy. I hope the airlines get things together as I booked a route with an extra stop so I could leave from my small local airport.
My son and his gf are in Mexico City. They had direct flight from Los Angeles and luckily no issues. Hope the return is as smooth. Other kid is taking a road trip with a 3 month old. They are worried about traffic tomorrow so plan on leaving when he wakes up for his early morning feeding at 5 am.
Regarding AirTags, IF anyone has concerns about data/location sharing with Apple as I do, you might also look at Tile Pro instead of Airbags. Same idea and does have to tie into its location but a bit more restrictive in terms of the data they are able to collect ( single point data vs. multiple data points). Also having info tied to iPhone is more data than tied into an app for a device.
S, DIL ,4 mo old grandbaby and DIL’s m are supposed to go to Ireland in 9 days. Hit a snafu with the baby’s passport. They have a convoluted plan to try to work it out. I would be amazed if it works.
Can they get an emergency appt at their department of state? You can go there within 14 days of travel.
Hopefully they live close enough to a passport office to get it sorted out. You need an appt. But even if I didn’t have one, I’d still just go in when it opens. They might be able to help. There are more offices than ever, and yet, they still take a long, long time for passport services.
Apparently Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg got stranded yesterday because his connecting flight was canceled. He did receive a refund for the canceled segment, however. It can happen to anyone these days.
AitTags saved us in Egypt. Even though we were sure we had loaded my carryon on the bus from the airport to the cruise ship, it didn’t show up in my cabin. “FindMy” showed the suitcase being about 2 miles from the ship, which was still docked. Our tour director realized it was showing the site where the bus was parked, and contacted the bus driver who looked in the hold and insisted there was no suitcase there. We insisted it must be there, and he crawled in the hold and found it wedged in a corner. Since it had important items, including medication and my laptop, it was really great we had the AirTags to pinpoint its location or we would have thought it was floating around the airport somewhere.
One advantage of AirTags, vs Tile, is that iPhones are ubiquitous all over the world, and every nearby iPhone acts as a locator. That’s not true for Tile, at least in my experience
I now have AirTags for all of our suitcases/carryons, in my wallet, and in the case where I keep my passport.
Any special place to buy them? How much do they run?
