What are your thoughts about travel in the time of Covid?

@thumper1 Restaurants may do limited seating by then. Also outdoor seating makes it a bit safer. Hope you take the get away.

AA spread us out. The plane is quite full. The airport was also busy. People were respecting distancing and try not to get each other’s space. The gate was full and people were still sitting away from each other. Many of us stood in the vicinity. As far as I can tell everyone is wearing a mask. We are well trained over the last two months.

I am getting so antsy!! Definitely not going to go somewhere this weekend. I’ll probably have quite a show of crammed people right here in my neighborhood. Probably grab a glass of wine and some peanuts and just sit out front.

But I am watching all the destinations that fit my criteria for outdoors and somewhat safe to see if a) can get there, b) can conveniently get food delivered or take out, c) distance to not infringe on the locals and d) nice clean place to stay with kitchen/laundry. I usually stay longer so need in house laundry. Not going to a laundromat because that would break rule C

About the time I get something figured out my D will be back at work and cannot go with me???

@coralbrook, want to come remodel a bathroom? My second home neighbors cannot get here, I’d bet I could get you a great deal on a place close by

I feel fortunate. We’ll be heading to FIL’s in early June for his 92nd birthday (and to be with him on the first anniversary of MIL’s death the day after). Eons ago he built his family a cottage on a river in VA. It’s quite nice and has a gorgeous view, though there isn’t much of a beach or similar (small one). He does have a boat. He loves to fish (and hunt) even at his age.

I prefer traveling to new places/exploring - and originally we were going to take him to Tangier Island for a “real” trip (reminiscing for him and H, new for me), but that’s certainly not an option any more. He has no desire to take chances. We don’t either.

Spending time with him and perhaps playing games will be sufficient. We’re totally isolating for the next couple of weeks to be sure we stay safe. Car is gassed up. Food is purchased. No stop needed en route. I just hope my bladder can take it! If not, there will be trees.

Right now, no one in our home feels any pressing desire to travel. We consider it daring to have our kid(s) who have been home with us to go to their cousin’s home to play board games with other cousins. All have been mostly staying home except limited grocery shopping.

Will await advice from my MDs about when and under what conditions we can travel. If neighbor islands travel changes to no quarantine for residents, I may consider since our state has such low numbers of cases and flights are so short. Probably I will just shelter at home and wait for 2nd wave. :frowning:

DH is taking our two sons up to our cabin this weekend. About as isolated as you can get - no other people for miles and miles. I love going, but I think it’s important the three guys spend time together without me around.

Our daughter is driving home from Pennsylvania today. She will be quarantining for two weeks. She knows she has to keep her distance from the rest of us and wear a mask whenever she’s out of her bedroom. (I’m finding that she and our middle kid spend most of their day in their bedrooms, anyway!)

I canceled a trip that was completely prepaid back in April. As of yesterday nothing had been credited back to my card. Sent an email and was told it’s taking 45-60 days to get refund. (Or maybe 30-45, I can’t remember).
I doubt I took that look the ion when they go paid the money.

Boy, if was 20 years younger…

Home again from our medical field trip. More cars on the road today but cleaning crews were onsite at rest area.

Another hint if you need to stay more than overnight at a hotel, put out the Do Not Disturb sign and leave it there until you leave. I also told the housekeeper that I encountered outside the door that we wouldn’t need any services. There’s no reason to have someone else in the room, we can reuse our towels and tidy our own bedding. I did leave a lager tip when we checked out.

Nice! I like a good fruity IPA too!

Tee-hee!

Lol, of course I meant $10 cash, but thanks for the chuckle.

Time to travel to Eastern WA for some sun and a haircut for Mr. ?

I’m imagining a haircut for the Mr. that wasn’t available over the pass.

No desire to travel right now, but I have big plans for when we can, i am going all out as if it was the last time I ever could travel. For now I wanted to rent the house in jersey shore this summer, just to get away, the rental comes with a boat. Our friends would be near by. BUT no one feels like going, said it’s really no point to vacation an hour away from home. So we will hunker down for the rest of the year most likely.
Kids have been traveling with us since they were infants, not always for vacation. But they have seen quite a bit. This is why I’ve always said I want to travel when we are young and able. Never thought a pandemic would stop us but here we are.

Another one bites the dust… almost.

We have rental cars parked all around our stadium currently. Haven’t rented from Hertz in years as their rates have been very much higher than competitors and they wouldn’t match or come anywhere near.

I really hope that HI is not going to turn into a banana republic due to the pandemic. The indicators I see are not very good…federal defense money can only go so far.

Hertz also owns the Dollar and Thrifty brands which target more price-sensitive renters.

Hertz just filed for bankruptcy protection. Its probably just a reorg. https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2020/05/22/business/hertz-bankruptcy/index.html

‘Although there are many car rental brands, there are actually only three major companies. Enterprise owns both National and Alamo. Avis owns Budget, Payless, and Zipcar. Hertz owns Dollar and Thrifty.’

A person who tested positive for COVID-19 attempted to board a plane in Lansing, MI:
