What are your top ten universities?

Going for aerospace engineering probably. Live in NC so that affects which I want to go to with costs and whatnot.

NC State

Virginia Tech

Georgia Tech

Honestly, outside of those, I don’t really want to go anywhere else. The only exception might be to play football at MIT if I could get some “preferred financial aid” for playing football because otherwise I can’t afford it. NC State would be perfect though because I could live with my brother in Raleigh and with the costs saved, I could go through college without debt.

Yeah it’s awesome. I could go on and on about how much I love State. I have grown up having them as my favorite college teams. I love the area of Cary and the Research Triangle; people are so nice and it’s a beautiful place with the forests. The Centennial Campus is amazing. I just can’t describe it with words, you have to visit. My brother also went there (and works locally so he can get me an internship over the summer at his engineering firm) and knows all the professors I should take and all the stuff I should do while there. He is also technically a student there still (grad school) so he can use student tickets and take me to football and basketball games! The only thing that will prevent me from going there is probably getting a full ride at another university and getting literally nothing in scholarships from State. I feel like it’s a done deal already xD

@CallmeC - Yep, I want to go into either CS or engineering and Berkeley has a MASSIVE influx of CS/ECE majors. Their program is amazing, probably the second best school to go into CS just behind Stanford, but their financial aid absolutely sucks haha. Which is why I want to try for the Regents’ Scholarship, but that’s only offered to the top 1% of all applicants. To be honest, if I somehow got into Stanford and also got the scholarship, I would have a REALLY tough time deciding, even though Stanford is technically my first choice.

In no particular order:

-UC Berkeley
-UC San Diego
-USC (Not really)
-Caltech
-Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
-Stanford
-MIT (Not really)
-San Diego State University

Ah, that makes sense. What scholarship are you going for? Mind linking it? I didn’t know Berkeley was so selective; isn’t it much easier to get in if you’re in state?

I’d actually really love to go to Duke, WashU, Rice, Hopkins, Emory, or Vanderbilt, actually. One of the full tuition merit scholarships from Duke or Hopkins would be amazing <3

@TeamRocketGrunt - The Regents’ scholarship (at all UC schools) is awarded to the top 1% of applicants; you basically get a free ride, which is awesome considering the financial aid there sucks. Berkeley’s probably easier to get into if you’re in-state, but it’s still pretty difficult.

If you are low income, yes you get a lot of monetary award for Regents. If you are not qualified for need-based aid, then the honorarium award is only 2,500/year at UCB, 2,000/year at UCLA.

@2018dad @TeamRocketGrunt - Yep, good clarification. I’m pretty sure I would personally receive more, though. Also, you get priority status when choosing classes, which is really great because classes (especially in CS) fill up really quickly.

I just found out UChic gives merit aid.

Sweet.

@catchinginfinity @2018dad: Ah, I see. That puts me out of the running for Regents, I guess. My EFC will pretty much get me nothing.
