Nick Hornby stuff for fun, and The Scarlet Letter for school

Naked Economics, The Brothers Karamazov for pleasure; Of Mice and Men for school

It’s depressing how little free time I have to read.
I’m reading Animal Farm right now, and I’m going to read Alice in Wonderland (both parts, I just watched the movie! heheh) and A Tale Of Two Cities after :)

^lol ch0mpha I just did the same thing with Alice :).

Also, I’m trudging along in All the King’s Men. Grrr books without (many) chapters annoy me…

Is it just me, or is Lolita the most insufferable novel ever? I very rarely put books down, but after a couple of weeks slogging through it, I just couldn’t be bothered anymore.

Was Lolita about some girl who falls for an older man or something?

Edit: Just finished 2/3 of “in her shoes” now and started crying.

I really enjoyed Lolita.

Basically, the main character is an ephebophile (pedophile is used incorrectly so often) and falls in love with his step daughter. They begin a sexual relationship. One of the things I most enjoyed about it is that, you have the “monster” presenting his story in incredibly flattering (and just generally incredible) language. Since he’s not explicit and obviously isn’t self-disparaging, sometimes it’s hard to remember how disgusting he is.

Also, Nabokov was an amateur lepidopterist, which just makes his books awesome. His vocabulary is so insane.

lepidorpterist!? Please rephrase that in language for dumb(er) folks!

Big fan o’ butterflies.

Blink by Malcolm Gladwell [in the morning and during school]

The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton [before I go to bed]

The Giver
This book is pretty interesting. And there are some issues for you to think about.
BTW,it’s not thick.

Lolita- cold chills This book was entertaining, but the next day at school…I felt like every teacher was flirting with me…It was hooorrrrennnddous

Well in class we just finished reading The Stranger by Albert Camus. I think we are going to be reading Frankenstein soon.

For leisure I am now reading The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo. Such a great book.

^^ The Giver is the BEST school required book. for my school at least.

^^^Are you in middle school?

Why does this matter to you? …
