What Caliber of Grad School Should I Aim For?

I graduated from UC Davis this past June with a degree in Political Science and a GPA of 3.49. I'm lucky enough that I've landed a job in the pricing & coding department of a natural foods distributor, but I want to continue to grad school in the near future. While it looks a little late for me to apply for Fall 2011, I have more than enough time to apply for the next year with a good r

This is the undergraduate thread. Go to the graduate school thread.

If you are smart enough for graduate “research” I am sure you can find the appropriate schools for you and what they need for admission.

3.49 is going to make any Phd program a reach. Study for the GRE. Hopefully, you have some undergrad research experience under your belt.

You may have to consider pursuing an intermittent Master’s degree.

Thanks for telling me about the graduate thread - I didn’t see anything regarding grad school in the index on the left, and thought it was kind of a weird section to leave out! I’ll go look for it now.

And yes, I’ve been afraid that PhD was probably out of my league at the moment. That being said, how hard would it be for me to get into a Master’s program?

I dont think a PhD is out of your league. Do you have research experience? I dont know how competitive political science is- but in science a 3.49 is not that bad

Political Science PhD programs are very competitive. Most only accept about a dozen students.

curious what are the average GPA requirement for PS programs

masters programs would cost money for the AP. Anyways it seems the OP has made an alternative thread on the graduate thread
