I'm thinking about majoring in computer science when I get to college, and I was wondering what can a grad with a BS do in the world with this degree?

Software developer, systems admin, network admin, web designer, database programmer, consultant, IT manager, game developer, customer support, quality assurance, technical writing, sales and marketing, animation/graphics, simulations-oriented research...

Read the threads currently on the parent's board. An article talks about how a recent Stanford grad passed on tech companies because of job instability and took a job as a management consultant.

well I'm stupid and worded this wrongly. so here goes again, what do people in these jobs actually do? I know I can be a manager consultant, but what does a manager consultant actually do?

they sit in front of their computer and watch star wars themed porn.
jk

get the book "Great Jobs for Computer Science Majors 2nd Ed." It explains what is available to those in the field.

It sounds like you have very fundamental questions about what people in the jobs actually do, and nobody is going to type in 224 pages worth of information.

that's not what I want either lol. wow I just suckat explaining what I want. Okay, I want to know generally the differences between someone in IT and someone who is a consultant, or a programmer or a software developer. Is that more clear? I don't have fundamental questions, just about specific careers.

if u get CS undergrad you have proven to any type of business employer that u have analytical skills.. many cs majors end up working in fields not completely directed to cs related stuff.. .this includes consulting.. etc. After a few years get an MBA and ur good for pretty much anything in the business field.

bern700:

I guess I've already gotten a head start on my career... ;)

hope this helps:
